My friend Jaymz (of the superhero comic Willem) came over on Monday night to help me pack up Kickstarter stuff. While she was here she also did all these cool Medusa sketches!
He looked slightly happy in that second panel, you know before the chainsaw ripped through his frontal lobe!
As to the sketches hipster-dusa and punk-dusa are my two favorites with rabid-dusa and spitting flame demon-dusa looking more like her Greek myth equivalent.
I am stumped as to what will happen next as I am hoping for some kind of epic reaction face from Momdusa.
Very cool. I imagine his scream sounds like a chainsaw revving up. I wasn’t sure where this section was going at first, but I’m glad I kept reading. Very nice, tragic backstory for what could have been simply a sight gag.
Lovely work as always Jake. Your talent never ceases to amaze me. 🙂
I’m happy these sketches are still cracking me up even when I’m not super tired, haha. If I had to pick a favorite… definitely “middle aged hippie aunt Tammy” with the coffee. The “You don’t need a man in your life to be happy” one, haha.
Okay, I suppose I could understand that as “a knight of chains”… *chain*saw works… but…. WHY chainsaw? I mean, maybe a horse able to summon chains through a sigil of some sort, or eternally bound by chains (ala Anima from FF10), or some such… but… chainsaw… odd odd choice.
Just what level of technology do they have in Yeld?
I expect that the next monster will shoot shurikens and lightning – and perhaps have tits and be on fire, depending on how awesome Jake is looking for.. (Yeah – I just watched the Zero Punctiation Painkiller video again – sue me…)
I suspect that about wraps up this arc… Cut Back to Medusa… and BATMAN!
Honestly? Not really. I’m not sick or anything, but I feel really run down and defeated right now. Once I get all the Kickstarter stuff in the mail I think I’m going to take a week off.
I got here from . . . being sick and trying to find a bunch of the webcomics I’d marked to archive dive later on my old computer, which lit on fire a couple of months ago. I re-found MM from the list of 2014 March Madness contenders.
I love it, it’s adorable, and my husband will be reading it with me soon. We’re huge fans of Selkie, so I’m not sure how I managed to miss this one for so long. An adorable “monster” child with realistic interactions? Yes, please! I’m also digging the intricate backstory and well-developed world; the Yeld RPG intrigues me.
Why am I commenting on THIS page? I know it might be a little strange, but you’ve also cemented my loyalty with multiple left-handed characters. 😀 Marah appears to be left-handed in real life (which is still cool; yay for lefties!) but now the Uberbaddy is a leftie, too? Woohoo!
Marah is left handed (although sometimes I forget). The Prince is ambidextrous, at least when it comes to sword play. He switches his grip a few times.
It’s nice to see artists actually remember that lefties exist, and depict people holding useful tools / writing / whatever in both hands. I realize a lot of artists use themselves as models, and making the *main* character whatever-hand dominant one is oneself makes sense, but it’s really nice to see someone who clearly draws both right- and left-handed characters. Even if it started with Marah being a lefty in real life, I noticed it at several points before this page, and appreciated it.
Minority identification is a weird thing. When you’re in a majority, so often it’s easy to forget that the minority exists, or to understand what the big deal is. When you’re in the minority, it’s practically impossibly to NOT notice the way all assumptions seem to be made for people who aren’t you, and it’s just . . . cool to see this. 🙂 (And yes, I’m overthinking hand dominance and minority identification in webcomics readership. Too bad; I’m nerdy and wordy. :P)

Ouu. Nasty.

“Men will only disappoint you! Now sit down and let me comb your snakes”.
HAHA!
Very nice backstory. I now kind of feel bad that you ran him over with the car.
Wasn’t me!
Nah, the car came AFTER the multiple stab wounds. Who knew kitchen knives could be so effective?
In Jake and Mara’s defense, the KoC was trying to brutally murder them with a chainsaw.
Hey, what’s a murder or two between strangers?
Or 17? (wink)
There’s a superhero comic about me?
You’re a robot and everything!
Sort of like Wolverine except its a chain saw that comes out of his head.

That’s what I was wondering. How does he even know what a chainsaw is?
“i make monsters.” with chainsaws. next up, one of the medusa kids. with chainsaws.
Nah – Chainsaws are last year..
I expect that the next monster will shoot shurikens and lightning – and perhaps have tits and be on fire, depending on how awesome Jake is looking for.. (Yeah – I just watched the Zero Punctiation Painkiller video again – sue me…)

That’s got to sting a little…
…. :*( Such a sad arc, yet so gooood. Why do all the sad things make the best stories?
Talk about a buzzing headache.
Doesn’t stop him from sawing logs, so it can’t be that bad.
I guess he’s going to be a little saw in the morning.
Ow. Ow ow ow ow ow. My thoughts are bleeding. Ow.
Angeldusa is cutest ‘dusa!
Desu all you want, people, but I think ‘dusa wins.
You can make it all melodramatic, but the whole chainsaw ‘horn’ is still damnibly goofy.
obviously the next flash back willb e how the prince of yeld used to be a great guy before he got corrupted by darkness
probavbly wielding the pwoer to preotect his people only to realise that they wouldnt accept his new form
Prince: “And so, in rage and sadness, I fell eternally into darkness.”
Jake: “Because someone cut in front of you in line!?”
Didn’t see that coming
[sarcasm]
Finally! Been looking forward to this since the guy turned into a horse. This arch has been wonderful!
that seems painful…
What’s the matter, Sage-Horse? You seem to have something on your mind? 😛
Groovy! 8D
how did he make a chainsaw come out of hios head? hell how did he know that chainsaws exist?
Same way other people who live in Yeld knew what a DS was?
Chainsaw unicorn finally we have a chainsaw unicorn thank you (^¥^)
OUCH!!
So Jake you feeling better?
Honestly? Not really. I’m not sick or anything, but I feel really run down and defeated right now. Once I get all the Kickstarter stuff in the mail I think I’m going to take a week off.
Before this comic: Hmmmm, maybe super-glue?
Or, the unicorn wanted to be unique?
After this comic: O_O
This comic page needs to play some nirvana
Any song in particular?
I guessed that horse-guy was, somehow, the chainsaw unicorn. I just couldn’t guess how he became it. Now I know. Ouch!
The Prince of Yeld has such a cool blade.
It totally makes up for the ridiculous codpiece XD
NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!:(
I thought the chainsaw unicorn was cool…
now it makes me want to cry!
GO DIE IN A HOLE VAMPIRE PRINCE!!!!!!!
(but I have to admit Jake, it does make a good twist in the story! 🙂 )

The truth has been told. *.*
