Hi! My name is Story Richmond (she/her). I live in Portland, where I make comics and games. Before I started Modest Medusa I was a part time teacher and illustrator. Modest Medusa started in 2011, and quickly went from a random gag strip to a long form story comic (with plenty of gag strips)! I think it would be really cool to get a mini-figurine, or preferably a plushie of the little medusa. I’d like to have one now, but of course, not if it was ridiculously expensive…I bet you could get an easy $15-20 asking price on a well made 8-10″ medusa.
I’ve caught up on everything today and now I’m waiting on the next one anxiously. Are we ever going to get a name to go with the friendly little medusa.

Hey Jake! I’m the guy from Stumptown who tried on the chainsaw unicorn hat on Saturday (if you remember that at all, haha). Just wanted to say I really dig the comic (read it all today). I thought the pacing was a bit weird, especially during the first ‘season’, but this most recent adventure is /very/ nice. Can’t wait to see more- this page is definitly staying in my favorites. 🙂

I stopped by your booth at kumoricon this last weekend as scott pilgrim. I started reading yesterday and am already to season 2! I really like it so far and i have the modest medusa sticker on my lap desk for my computer.

Been loving your comix for a while and following MM online. My lifestyle doesn’t allow for physical “schtuff” accumulating in my digs. That’s why I’m down with the online scene. I check in as often as I can.
So, like, where’s the clickable donation icon, so I can eSend you $$? Folks gotta have a way to support their “fix.” Know what I mean? I always check up on Medusa, so get that donation thing going. Multiple income streams feed the pond of wealth. Dude!
I appreciate the thought, but I’ve never been comfortable with donation buttons. Or rather, I feel like my Kickstarters are already giant donation buttons!
Umm… hi! I found your comic by destiny on top web comics where your comic was, er, um, *88th* in the list… oh, well! I just googled “web comics” for fun cos I read a comic that updates once every friday and it’s hard to spend the week bored. Well, anyways, the comic underneath MM was Sarah Zero and I’d seen that twice before on the top comic list so I let my curiousity lead me. Anyways i found out it’s a strange gay comic. So I clicked yours cos it was ontop of the Sarah Zero one. I fell in love with Medusa’s cuteness. So I read the whole comic from the beginning! It took me a day or 2 but it was TOTZ WORTH IT! I FEEL LIKE I KNOW MEDUSA SO WELL! I LOVE IT! I live in GB and I am a very picky comic reader. I hate those japenese-anime style ones cos they annoy me. I think rude ones like Sarah Zero are too, well, rude. I like cute comics! And I’m new to web comics. It started off with “Doctor Cat” and then yesterday I got bored! So call it destiny! Chocodiles and Pokemon and cons are all new to me though. The British don’t exactly have a tendency to put on conventions. oh well!

Hmm… I don’t want to bad mouth Julia and Howard at all. They may be offering a great service. But recently several friends who have done Kickstarters told me that they hired consultants to help them out, and that they regretted it. Apparently the consultants did little more than send their press release to a few sites that didn’t run it anyway. If you’re running a Kickstarter I’d advise doing research before you pay anyone to help you promote. Or even better, just do it yourself (and with the help of your super cool audience).

So, jake, how did Marah react when you told her she died in your comic?
It didn’t seem to bother her. But it was partially her idea and she knew it was coming for over a year, so it wasn’t a surprise.
I am still sad as heck over it. I loved her character.
Well, there will be more Marah stories eventually. Soon, actually.
Wandered into B&N today to get a Consumers Report and they were doing a big advertising thing for their upcoming “Get Pop-Cultured” event. I told them they missed a bet by not including this great local artist who had a few books out. The clerk at the table will look up Medusa, and may become a convert. I doubt the chain notices though… Still a little evangelising!

This is kinda weird, but…I supported the first two volumes. At the time I was posting as Timothy, and my name as it appears on the credits is Timothy NM Kinnee. I’ve actually gone ahead with my transition since then.

Hey! What device to you use to draw on? I’m interested in getting a tablet for drawing.
I draw most of my comics on paper with illustration pens, but I do all of my coloring and some line work digitally using a Wacom Cintiq 12wx. Its an older model and can be gotten pretty cheap these days. Its reliable, but mine is getting worn and I’m planning on replacing it later this year with a Huion Kamvas Pro 20

Hey! Thanks for asking. So I’m working with Steve Tooze to produce a line of resin Modest Medusa miniatures. These are 1.5 inch green resin miniatures perfect for gaming, painting and collecting. The set we’ll be releasing is 6 miniatures, and we may do more. We’ll be launching a Kciksatrter for these in a few weeks if all goes well.
In addition to that, I’d very much like to do a series of Modest Medusa collectible figures. I’m envisioning 4-6 inch tall figures, possibly pre-painted. I’ve talked to a few sculptors, but finding someone to actually cast these has been difficult. So its a project thats on the back burner.
