– I’m going to be at the Clallam Bay Comic Con in Washington on July 8-9. This is a cool small show hosted by Donna Barr. I’m looking forward to it! If you live in Washington please come check it out!
– If you’re enjoying Modest Medusa please consider becoming a patron by donating a few dollars each month through Patreon. Your donations through Patreon make up the majority of my income and allow my to focus on making comics. This month I’m trying hard to get my Patreon up to $1000/per month. I’d certainly appreciate your support!
I’m offering a new $10/month pledge level where I’ll send you an original marker illustration featuring a Modest Meudsa, Ghost Kiss or Asami loves Korra character of your choice a few times a year. Here’s some samples!
Thank you all so much. You can check out my Patreon page here.
– Jake
Can’t use the DS – so it is creepy and scary. The pencil drawings were foreshadowing.
“Home is where the DS charges.”
That’s… oddly profound.
Jake, I know I’ve already said this but… I’ve gotta be serious. I love your art. I draw, or try to, and some people like my stuff and I like some people’s stuff, but something that I’ve seen a lot is people have a medium and they stick with it. Its not every day that I see someone who excels in multiple forms- and I know from reading this site that you can do digital (your usual work), marker, and now pencil. You are indeed, a rare breed, and I am in utter awe.
Currently my family is poor, I’m having to support them, and I don’t even have $10 extra or I would purchase an art piece from you. However, perhaps by June, we will be in a better place, and in the mean time I will gladly read and support your comic as best I can.
I know comments get moderated, and I don’t know if you’ll have this officially hit your site or not but… I just had to get real here. I’ve been reading for a long time, and I’ve seen a lot of comics in my day, and yes- I’ve seen some good artists. But I’ve almost never seen someone who can do the same attention to detail, characterization, and scene that you can no matter what tool seems to be in their hand.
Keep up the amazing work, see you in the next update!
Thanks so much. Thats really nice to hear. You’ve made my day.
“I’ve…made a huge mistake.”
*Arrested Development Intensifies*
Pencils bring in so much feel to the night scene, it’s unbelievingly good!
Have you considered using charcoal for these night scenes? It’s a lot nicer than graphite for making dark blacks and sharp contrast, though it’s messier and trickier to work with.
Charcoal looks great, but I hate working with it.If I try this again I might use a charcoal brush in photoshop or Sai.
I knew this would happen! In fact, I would have posted this a few strips back, but the comment system wasn’t working. So, here goes:
Modest: Hang on… *checks charge level on DS* Now, how long did it last last time…? Right… so… so if I give myself just one game a day… I’m going to start hating it here in about a week. Unless someone can rig up a charger.

Town crier: Hear-ye, hear-ye! Let it be known that all subjects of Prince Dragul may charge their Dee Ess..sss…es at his palace for free!
Townswoman: What’s a De-essus? And what are they going to charge it with?
Elderly townswoman: *cups hand to ear* Whatever they charge ‘im with, I daresay ‘e deserves it! Sounds like a nasty piece of work!
Town crier: *finishes checking down scroll* No… no, nothing else about it. Dunno, madam… I can only read what they send me. *ahem* Hear-ye! Buy Prince Brand cigarettes – a smooth cigarette for an evil kingdom! Blacken your soul as you blacken your lungs, and do it in style…

How ya gonna keep ’em, down on the farm,
After they see Paris?
How she gonna play her, x box and game,
With no ‘lectriticy?
On a side note. Modest most likely IS smarter than her sisters. Early brain growth due to more stimuli. Lets not forget learning to read and use numbers.
The earlier you increase the variety of things in a child’s environment the better they grow their brains. She started the intensive care brain program a little late, (6 or 7 years old?) but is still miles ahead of her sisters.
For all you new parents out there, I highly recommend you have a TV in the background of your newborns nursery that alternates between english, spanish, and chinese soap operas. Exposure to other languages makes learning them much easier when older. Something about creating neural pathways to sounds that are NOT in english but are in other languages.
