Thanks for your patience, everyone. I’m still resolving my computer issue, but in the meantime I’m borrowing a computer to work on. I think everything will be fine, but I do appreciate your messages.
I’ve been reading through the various book series by Jack Campbell lately that started with The Lost Fleet. The main character’s had a similar conversation a few times, the most notable with his grand-niece, who grew up in the shadow of the legend developed around him. (He was presumed dead, lost fighting the enemy to give the rest of the ships with him time to escape when the enemy launched an unprovoked attack, but he was alive in a damaged escape pod in survival sleep, so he’s _technically_ over a hundred years old.) She did something heroic but confided that she was absolutely terrified while doing it, not sure it would work. He told her that’s normal, he was terrified when he did his last stand as well.
If you’re not scared there’s something wrong with you. Overcoming your fears and _still_ doing the heroic thing that might get you killed is what truly makes it heroic. I think Mariah understands that .
And as someone in I wanna say “The Secret Saturdays” once said – “A warrior and a coward have the same amount of fear. It is what you do at the time that determines which one you are.”
It’s a good question, though. Where IS safe in Yeld?
I mean captain Jasper in the chapter called politics said that there are free cities that the prince cannot attack thanks to the Old King’s treaties.
sure. But we’ve seen one of those and it wasn’t exactly safe.
Yeah that is true but who knows maybe they’re more safer cities out there and it’s probably better than being hunted by vampires who are murder happy.
Probably!
Note that Modest was told to hide on Earth because it wasn’t safe for her on Yeld.
Well she is the Crown Princess so even in the safer cities she would have been used as a political Pawn/puppet by whoever wanted the crown.
This comic is very, very well written. I don’t like to talk about myself too much, but, dang, reeeal.
Also I finally saw your blurb about computer problems and how that was definitely a Star Trek IV reference so… sorry for the problems, but great joke
Thanks.

Nice character building moment, well done.
