Jenny is doing a great job of showing how you should respond to defaultism: cheerfully educate. In this case, Deena’s human/nuclear family/breeder defaultism. It’s exactly how I handle cishets trying to fit queer relationships into their defaultist worldview.
Jenny is reacting to getting called cringe without knowing what it means the opposite to how people react to being called the GOAT when they don’t know what it means. 😀

This raises questions about mermaid reproductive biology. Is it like fish, where they lay the eggs and then a male comes along and fertilises them?
Probably not, but maybe?
Maybe it’s like sharks? The eggs are inside the mother & get fertilized there. When they hatch the baby sharks come swimming out. It isn’t like mammals where the mother’s body supports the developing embryo, the eggs hatch without help. AFAIK of course, I remember it because it’s so weird yet cool.
A lot of snakes do that too.
