If she’s smart she won’t let them leave, but I doubt she is ruthless enough for that.
(…not yet anyway)
Regardless of hether or nor they were looking for her, them knowing about her can’t be good. And theat expression read as ‘skock and fear’ not ‘surprise at an unlikely development’ – they totally know of someone who has Binding Armor and comes from Off-Yeld, and don’t want to mess with them. Not in a fair fight, anyway….
Plus, if they were willing to maim and kill here they will be willing at the next place too, where she won’t be there to stop it.
At 1 versus 2 odds? Against vampires? And Marah’s not their target?. “Let them leave” is a stretch. Leaving is what she wants them to do, what all the villagers want them to do.
Those 2 have a mission, and they used enough force to try to accomplish it. As was stated, bad people come to the mountain to hide, and the residents shelter them. A bit of persuasion is necessary. They might have expected the villagers to cave in just from the very real example of violence.
And they are probably leaving because the Prince has standing orders on what to do with people from the other world. He seems to have special uses for them.
People from Portland, Maine think they live in the main Portland. Its the same here. If someone told me they lived in Portland I’d never even consider they meant Maine. If they said they lived in Maine, I’d think they meant the Maine neighborhood or Portland, Or.
Oh, I was just thinking that people from Portland, Or tend to think of their city as the REAL Portland, and people from Portland, Maine tend to think the same. Nothing to do with the story.
Being transplant from Maine to California, I recall a test question asking which cities were furthest from San Diego, without specifying a state.
I chose Portland, because it’s a whole diagonal across the country.
If I recall correctly, the instructor didn’t even realize there was a Portland Maine at the time, until I pulled out an Atlas to show him.
I do imagine (or hope) that a Maine accent might give away their origins, at least.
I do not currently possess a Maine accent, which means whenever I return, I am the one that speaks funny. I have a California accent, which mainly means I talk fast.
I guess it makes sense she’s not the Oathbreaker they’re after since she never took an oath. Still, it never occurred to me they would be after anyone else.
You do realize it’s precisely her they’re after, right? They just assumed that an outsider can’t be a powerful Oathbreaker who managed to attract attention of the Prince.
I bet it will turn out that they came to Yeld through Jake’s toilet. Jake will meet them some day and be all “aren’t you the kids who went into my bathroom ten years ago and never came out? I always wondered what happened to you.”

uh huh
This reminds me of the Biker scene in the move A Bronx Tale
“Now youse can’t leave”

My jaw is dropped so far I might trip over it
They’re actually from Portland, Maine.

Or Tennessee or Texas or the Isle of Portland where the all got their names from. 🙂
yeah, theres a lot of them.
Anywhere there’s a port and some land, you might find one
No idea what are you talking about or if she spoke truth or lied about the Portland.

Thats pretty funny.
Or the Isle of Portland (Great Britain)
Wait … why does he think she’s not the one they are after? Or does he know she is and only wants to attack with element of surprise?
Well, they’re looking for a specific person. They probably know what they look like.
You know what, that also makes sense.
Well, that was an unexpected break. Wait, are they looking for the Chainsaw Unicorn, by chance? Or a character we haven’t been introduced to yet?
Depending on the number of portals between Earth and Yeld, tt would make sense that most “round ears” are from the same locations.
I bet it will turn out that they came to Yeld through Jake’s toilet. Jake will meet them some day and be all “aren’t you the kids who went into my bathroom ten years ago and never came out? I always wondered what happened to you.”
ha
BTW, Modest Medusa: Marah the Oathbreaker from 2013 Deviantart. And there is few Oathbreakers 😉
