So I drew and colored this entire comic and then realized I had drawn Modest’s hair whispering to Gene in panel 2, and gene talking to Modest in panel 3. A reverse of what I wrote! That happens sometimes. I’ll write a strip, and then kind of draw it on auto-pilot. Sigh. I had to do some last minute revisions, which is why this is getting posted so late.
Now, did she translate it correctly?
And as I expected, she 100% did not internalize what her snake said.

The funniest part is that this step isn’t even needed – we’ve seen before that Boy Hair Snake can just hijack Modest’s vocal chords
Man I do that all the time zoning out, they just didn’t ask me to forget/not listen.
Well… seems to be working so far!
I’ve always admired the lines – the illustration. The expressions especially. But the inking! The depth from such a limited palette is wonderful. The choice of colours makes me want to take a bite out of them. The blue-braided hair, the boy’s face. Just wonderful. Thank you.
