I love how we see the difference in ability from the hair to Modest, it makes them stand out as their own character.
I would love to see the other ‘strands’ of her hair give their input in different subjects, to see them begin to shine a little more personality-wise.
Thats just Modest talking. Its not clear if the snake’s whispers are anything else but hisses that she interprets as words. or maybe they do vocalize to her? We don’t know.
The voices she heard when the snakes spoke previously were all in her head and were manifestations of the Prince’s influence. We don’t know what she thought they sounded like.
Then explain why, when Modest was reading, she stumbled over her words, stuttered, and didn’t know how to pronounce “Philadelphia”, but then when she repeats what Hair whispered to her, she spoke flawlessly?
I mean, she’s repeating what her snake told her (or what her brain thinks her snake told her.), and apparently what her snake told her was spoken flawlessly. She’s probably not even aware of the difference.
I actually saw this quite a bit with kids when I was teaching. They’d stumble over reading text or public speaking, but could easily recite a song or repeat what a friend said.
They don’t have names exactly, but they’re referred to as LT, LB, RT and RB. LT likes chocodiles, LB is artistic. RB is a gamer and nerd, and RT has never really had his own interests because he was stuck with the Prince.
Well that last panel is bloody adorable.
Fist bump, head bump. Good one!
Saw this coming, but love it all the same.
Modest certainly deserves a good grade for speaking so well.

I think RT is the only one really interested in school, but we’ll see the others do stuff too.
What sort of voice do the snakes have? Or is that Modest talking? What about “the Medusa is not your friend” bits way back?

My private interpretation is that Modest speaks parseltongue. 😀

Combination headbutt/fissssssstbump.
Teminds me of Hobbes. Smarter than Calvin.
I read that as “Hobbits” before I got some sleep.
Also, I’m guessing your username is a habit from commenting on Gunnerkrigg Court.
That was about as adorable as I hoped for!
I’m trying but can’t find the pages where their names and personalities are described. Could you give us a reminder, please?
