Man, I love this series, but… I’m sorry, that dialogue doesn’t seem natural. “Where is this” instead of “where am I,” “at least my super power still works” instead of “at least that still works,” it just doesn’t feel right when reading.
Still a great comic! This one page is just… yikes. 😐
I’ve learned I have to make sacrifices for exposition. I can’t expect the audience to remember everything. We’re also returning to Marah’s story after about 200 pages, and this particular part of the story connects to a chapter that was about 850 pages ago. I can’t expect readers to remember all the details. So I have to explicitly mention Marah’s superpowers, otherwise people forget.
As far as “Where is this?” goes, that’s how I talk. Same with most people I know. Maybe its regional?
I just assumed it was ‘where is this’ directly referring to the question of ‘am I on Earth or still in Yeld?’ so I didn’t feel it was odd at all. I can see how it would be a regional difference in speaking though.
Marvel expects everyone to remember everything. xP
But yeah, that makes sense. Still, I just think “where am I” and “at least that still works” would read better, but that’s just me. It doesn’t take away any exposition, since “that” would obviously refer to her power.
If this is a flashback to shortly after she was cut, I’m curious why her horn shape changed to straight later.
I go with, the horns can reflect the state of mind.

The dialogue sounds fine to me. But then again, I’m Russian…

Important to check that.
Everything is made from wood except the mattress which is from actual straw. That also points to Yeld.
I have the feeling that to take that away they would have had to remove the arm.
I have the feeling that even removing her arm would NOT take it away. It would just turn into robotic arm.

We’ll learn about the change to her horns this season!
