Yes, the annoying one. Eat the annoying one.
Eat it with garlic.
So to live long, they have to eat their own kids, or their snakes? But don’t they have to KEEP eating them? I doubt 3 parts of your own body will keep them alive that long.
………..is this why we don’t see any of the other sisters? There were far more than just them that escaped and traveled. :O
Yeah, the magic that is keeping the Gorgon alive (and making her more powerful too, although we haven’t really gotten into that) is sustained by periodically eating her children. Although we don’t know if she’s actually doing that anymore. Naga’s arm sacrifice won’t sustain her for long, which is why she told teh girls that she’ll die soon.
Most of Modest’s sisters were left behind in the castle, and some of them are still there. But some of them have escaped on their own. We’ll get a chance to see what they’re up to in the Magical Land of Yeld game. Here’s a preview:
Elbow Medusa looks older.
Does she?
Oh, I see who you mean. Yeah, she is a little older. The yeld game takes place after the current events of Modest Medusa, so some of the Gorgon’s children are a few yew years older, and she’s had other kids since the events of Modest medusa Season 3.
So they -have- to eat other Hydra to extend their lives?! Savage.
It’s pretty rare. You have to know its possible and you have to know the spell to do it, and its super taboo. The Gorgon might not have been able to do it at all without the Prince. Naga most have found some variation of the spell that allowed her to eat part of herself instead.
Shouldn’t just 1 of them (1 separate hydra) be enough to extend their lives to around double of what it would normally be.
Also will modest outlive her sisters and (I don’t remember reading it) what is the normal hydra lifespan.
Nevermind about the age thing I read it in one of the comments below this one.
Well, each head isn’t a separate Hydra. And its not just the eating that does it. Its not a natural thing Hydra can do. There’s serious magic involved. Naga must have found some kind of spell that would allow her to sacrifice and consume parts of her own body in order to extend her life.
Hydra’s natural lifespan is similar to a human, but also Hydra tend to die shortly after having kids. So even though they can live to 60 or so, most die in their mid 20s or 30s.
So can naga still have children or is it too late since she no longer has any snakes?
She may be too old. She may have already gone through snake menopause. I’m not sure.
Auntie Naga is the best. T_T
I’m thinking The Restaurant at the End of the Universe where they bred intelligent cows that knew they were going to be eaten.
Glados will probably be fine doing that. So long as she doesn’t eat the Morality snake. Or the Intelligence snake. Or the Curiosity snake. Maybe just make a meal out of the Anger snake, that seems like the least problematic of all snake-consumption paths.
Perhaps it would make a lovely cake?
don’t eat the space snake either.
Thus the Ouroboros goes on forever.
If her snakes (heads) regenerated like they do in most myths that could actually work.
I feel conflicted it’s nice but also completely unsavory
Unsurprisingly, her snakes are amazingly well behaved.
Hmm….
wonder if there are any regeneration spells out there that could regrow the mini snakes?
and if eating them would still extend her age?
Darnit! My running theory ruined! I theorized that Naga stayed alive because she didn’t reproduce, based on what the Prince said. Sort of like a loophole with a cost. Live forever as long as you never give birth.
Naga did probably live a little longer because of that. We do know that adult Hydra die relatively soon after they have their children (less than 5 years). So not having kids probably allowed Naga to live her full natural lifespan, which was pretty long for a Hydra. My guess is she’s about 80, and Hydra mostly don’t last much past 60, even if they don’t have kids.
So is this a “who was the first guy to look at a cow and go ‘yeah, I’d drink from that'” situation? Will we delve into the history of what I can only assume is necromancy that allows one to live longer by eating their young?
Even in Yeld that kind of thing is pretty rare. Gorgon probably had no idea it was even possible. Likely the Prince introduced the idea to her. Its not something hydra naturally do.
Is it gonna be like “yeah sometimes you have a snake that splits off and you have to eat it before it eats you” like Modest’s snake?
That snake doesn’t look too concerned about being eaten.
Ha! Don’t act so outraged, Modest! I can think of one recently-throttled snake who would taste pretty good in … well, I don’t know. Jake, has Modest developed some semblance of a healthy and gastronomically sophisticated appetite yet? (Will she ever?)
I think she has.
Makes sense why Auntie Naga wanted to bring Modest back to Yeld. She knows she doesn’t have a lot of time left, and Modest had no one to tell her what her later life as a hydra would be. Also possible she’s hoping Modest will be around to help look after her sisters once she’s gone. But we already know that Modest doesn’t stay…
I know where to get thousands of invasive Burmese pythons, enough to live on for centuries.
