I guess Ekans’s gonna have to learn to swordfight after all… or just take the piano lessons.
But yay for Modest’s success!
She’s a modern Earth human. If she has fighting to do, she’d be better served by learning to use a gun. Modern technology may be mundane to us, but things like lighters or matches allow fire generation without depleting some personal metaphysical resource. A smartphone is far more useful than a palantir. And a child with a gun can kill any knight in shining armor.
I mean, a modern Earth human ideally shouldn’t need to learn to fight at all. If one absolutely has to, it means something is very, very wrong.
Thats true.
Like monsters and supervillains running around? I’m assuming that crime and war have already been eliminated here, if that’s a question.
Ideally? No. But the last I checked, the world hadn’t been cleansed of all evil and aggression. Until it is (And I’m not holding my breath.), good people also need to be prepared to fight.
I don’t know, I get the feeling there might be more here…
I was waiting to say this for your next update:
1. So to be clear there is magic in this earth setting due to the kitchen sink trope right?
2. Since Meg here is a really good student doesn’t that just mean that she has a higher chance of being a Mad Scientist?
We haven’t seen any evidence of our world having its own magic. I don’t think it does. When Jenny first arrived she was surprised that there wasn’t any magic to draw from.
Well technically she said that she could barely feel any magic in the world but most importantly since Meg is good at school wouldn’t that mean that she has a boon of becoming an accomplished mad scientist?
IDK. I don’t think excelling in the current US school system really qualifies you for much (I say, as a former teacher)
Man, it really bothers me that the spell incantation contains the word „secretly“, adds too many syllables to the last line 😀
Sorry
Ouch. Poor Meg.
So this is how we explain “string theory?”
Ha.
Mmm… So Ekans only needs to have some form of magic inside of her as a source for the spells to work, right?
Now I’m imagining Modest shoving the little flame in her mouth while saying “Eat this!” All Might style.
Or a source of magic to draw on. She also has to have the training and aptitude to use magic at all. Jenny’s lesson is really simple here, probably because Jenny can inherently use magic and so can Modest. In fact, this lesson probably isn’t enough to allow Meg to cast a spell, even if she had teh resources. As a non-magical creatures she’d probably need a lot more training and practice. So Jenny is setting a poor expectation here.
You can actually see the moment Ekans abandons the chant. I want the girl to succeed, but it is hard to think of a way other than stealing it from somoene else.
The worst possible solution involves Modest taking Ekans to Yeld.
I also see that Modest commits fully to the spell while Meg is uncomfortable trying.
Awww, poor Ekans. 🙁
On a side note, you have gotten very good at expressions Jake. Facial expressions and eyes are one of my key things I look for in drawings and animations etc. when properly done, it can tell its own story with the character.
Thanks.
Instructions unclear, burned down my house. Also, for was green instead of blue.
Sometimes mermaid school… is NOT cool!
