Modest’s so sleepy, her snakes got thinner for the second panel 😀

I drew his one in Photoshop since I left my inking pens somewhere. Something i’m learning about digital drawing is that zooming in to draw a panel means that you often lose track of how big things need to be in relation to other thing on the page.
I think I can see that – Modest’s arms in particular seem a lot shorter than usual, unless that’s just your drawing style evolving.
I’ve been trying to give her shorter, thicker arms and a shorter torso lately. longer arms and torso made her look older than she actually is.
There’s an easy solution I learned from a Photoshops class with an awesome teacher.
Have two windows open for every image you’re working on if you plan on zooming-in; one for detail-work when you’re zoomed-in on the image, and the other at whatever the respective “fit-to-screen” resolution for a view of the entire page, which lets you see how things look when it’s all put-together.
It’s one of those really simple ideas that you know you should’ve thought of yourself, but for some reason you still didn’t — feel free to facepalm/facedesk, because I definitely did.

Agreed. (I think it’s the half-lidded eyes. Sleepy kids are almost always cute.)

i love how the one snake does not sleep in the first panel.
Ever since he started waking up at 3:00 in the morning with nightmares, Jake started staying up all night.
And this is why they need nap time in grades higher than just kindergarden, like throughout high school… and college… and every job you get after that.
That one snake that’s awake… So cute!
Its OK to stay up all night if you’re playing video games. Its not OK to stay up all night working, unless you are the night-shift.
Why do you always stay up at night? I seem to remember Modest bothering you while you where trying to sleep in the AM a while back.
It’s never really explained in the comic, but Jake works at night.

Since my life changed….
Has it been a year already? I hope you’re doing okay.
The anniversary hits like a sack of bricks and stirs up the darkness. But i’ve got a roommate, she’s got two kids four and seven, and a guy roommate. The house has life so that is something at least.
That’s something at least.
