Doctor Who’s old, just not nearly old enough for him to get the reference.
No Captain America esque scene for you, Marah – they won’t understand this reference either.
Reference something that doesn’t post-date his exit from earth or your life’s lore and culture mentions of what came to be will come off as stranger than fiction, stranger than the fantasy-like reality they’re already accustomed to. Years of academy training wasted.
Marah, TV didn’t exist in 1919, that didn’t happen until(I believe) the mid to late 1940s, and Doctor Who didn’t start until Nov. 23, 1963. I’m pretty sure Einstein hadn’t formulated his theory by 1919 yet!
Einstein’s annus mirabilis occurred in 1905, and he had formulated *general* (as opposed to special) relativity by 1915 (just barely edging out Hilbert). So, no, Einstein had formulated his theory by then. What you’re probably thinking of is the first experimental confirmation, which Eddington recorded during the 1919 solar eclipse.
Well, I guess it makes sense that Doctor who would have already done that trope, really the only example that I can think of is the Norse God of War games.
Oh, Marah, Marah, Marah…
Television was still “radio with extra steps” when he came to Yeld.

… of course, no TV show is THAT old … because the TV is not that old.

Oh, OK, I stand corrected. I wasn’t actually aware of exactly when he first came up E=mc squared, so nice to know.

The Chronicles of Narnia also did it. Time not flowing the same between Earth and Narnia was one of it’s major things.
