Ms. Booth: *glances up at clock* … Oh… ****! *glances at phone* Must… reach save point…!
And so:
Ms. Kohli: (into phone) So, that was your strategy? Oh, well, recess has been on for a few minutes now, so Modest is probably out there, but I don’t know if she’ll have garnered much attention… *looks out of window*
Modest and train of kids: MEDUSA TRAAAAIN!!! WOOO!! WOOOO!!!!
Ms. Kohli: No, it all looks normal… it’s just like any other time we’ve had a new piece of play apparatus installed…
Nah, there’s no chance for that. There’s nothing of consequence in this comic anymore. Not since Marah’s death came without real consequences (other than changing great story that played off in Yeld into a gag comic).
Not that I don’t want to be wrong here…
I’m sorry you’re not enjoying the comic Bob and that you don’t think anything of consequence has happened for the last 200 strips. Here’s the thing: The Yeld arc lasted for about 220 strips, and every single strip I got a half a dozen or so respones asking me when the comic would “go back to how it was before”. When would the comic go back to being about Jake and Medusa hanging out at the house? When would it go back to gags and Pokemon jokes? Dozens of comments every week. For like two years. I didn’t listen to them, because I make the comic I want to make, and I take the comic in the direction I want to take it in. Modest Medusa started as a fish out of water comic. It became an adventure comic. It then became a comic about a little girl trying to deal with losing her best friend and trying to figure out her place in her new life when a big part of that life was suddenly missing. It’s ALWAYS been a gag comic. Always. Right now it’s also about a little girl who isn’t normal trying to learn if she can be normal. Maybe you don’t care for that or wish it were something else? Sorry. If you don’t feel like there are any consequences to the events that happen in this comic, I don’t know what to tell you. Everything that happens in this comic is part of a larger story, and consequences don’t always unfold in the most dramatic or direct way, or resolve immediately in a neat fashion. But this is an ongoing story, and every part of it is building to something.
Obviously someone got to leave a note with special instructions. I just hope Modest will be alright and that no one accidentally gets majorly hurt (physically or emotionally).
Seriously. What is wrong with Mrs. Booth? I was completely fine with her character until this point. Now, I just think she’s a neglectful. Maybe the reason she had weirdness when Jake was a child is all because she is a neglectful person to her students.
Yeah, Jake and Ms. Booth used to date but she broke up with him right before Modest showed up. She considered him to be very childish since he suddenly decided to quit his job at the school, he didn’t want to move in together, and he didn’t want to talk about having kids, but from what I can puzzle out they had only been dating for a year although they had been friends since they had been kids in school.
“What a strange class,” he thinks to himself. “One kid didn’t think she got recess. Some guy left a lunch for me. What’ll happen next?”
Meanwhile…

*snickers a lot*
I didn’t know snakes could move this fast
snakes are super fast, they don’t have to wait for their legs like we do.
Snakes are in fact very fast especially when striking. Some snakes can strike so fast that you won’t even see the movement.
Yes!! (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
Show of hands: who thinks this is going to have consequences wider than we aught to expect of a girl unused to playing at recess?
I’m still predicting that this group of kids finds themselves in Yeld somehow. Whether something at recess triggers that or not is another question.

Forgot. I meant someone forgot to leave a note.
I’ve forgotten why she doesn’t normally do recess.
She’s been held back from recess for special supervision and tutoring.
Sure hope nothing bad happens.

I thought Ms. Booth was Jake’s ex-girlfriend, not his childhood teacher. Gah, I might be lost.
Okay, now I’m lost, too.
