– Since the heatwave threw off my schedule last week and I never got around to posting a Friday strip I decided to do a double size strip today instead. Seriously, this heat is killing me. Work is fine. Nice and cool. But my room at the house is like a DOOM level, and the walk to work just feels like someone put a wet, hot blanket over my head. I hate it so much.
– I’ve posted some new pages of my Legend of Korra fan comic. if you like that kind of thing you can check it out here.
– If you like Modest Medusa (or my other comics) please consider checking out my Patreon and becoming a patron. That’s how I mostly make my living right now, and the more money my Patreon can bring in the more time I can spend making comics instead of just working to make ends meet. Even a dollar every month is really appreciated! You can check out my Patreon here.
So Jake has to pay for the lunch and then pay for the Chocodile. It seems he could save money if he told the teacher to stop stealing Modest’s lunch.
I don’t think that the teacher ever intended to steal Modest’s sandwich in the first place, and since it appears that Jake is on familiar terms with the teacher, there may have been an unspoken agreement between the two that Jake would supply a sandwich for her. If Jake forgot specifically to include an extra sandwich for the teacher on the first day, I could totally see how this would look to Modest as being sandwich theft.
Ah kids. so easily pacified. i remember that happening to me when i was young, nothing a chocolate bar couldnt fix.
I don’t think the teacher is that bad, or a sandwich and chocodiles cost that much. The teacher and Jake looks like close friends and the free food stuffs are to take extra care of modest as she’s a handful. Poor modest, she’s learning to adapt to school life, with its tons and tons of unwritten, unspecific rules…
that’s our girl never afraid to be modest
Early onset Chocodile addiction!
See? It was all an arrangement with Jake! The sandwiches a least; Modest got detention all on her own (the snakes didn’t even do it!).
As for discipline: the teacher needs to show Modest she’s serious, she’s in charge. A few early detentions avoids a lot of later drama & disruption. That’s just how it goes with (some, most, Modest!) kids.
I’m thinking this was an arrangement between Jake and the teacher really. He set it up before she went to school. He probably wanted to have Modest taught that everything thign can’t go the way she wants it too. And a sandwich is a small price to pay for it. Could it be handled differently sure and probably better but it’d like real life , you don’t always make the right choices at first.
I was never that easily pacified. Too much intelligence, too much ADD.
Now, if you had a gameboy and a new cartridge on hand…
Ah, the powerful magic of the legendary chocodile
The way to Medusa’s heart…
So looks like Modest is easy to buy off.
*eyerolls*
Can’t really say it’s that out of character.
It’s nice to see the teacher drawn with eyes showing emotions other than anger and annoyance.
Teacher: Would you forgive me for a ModestSnack?
Modest: Yes.
I hope there is some clarification to the teachers actions, but even with today’s reveal, as someone who teaches I’m pretty dissapointed with her behavior to this point. Stealing a students food, regardless of arrangement is horrible, also there are better ways to deal with a new student who doesn’t know the rules than to be so immediately harsh, ESPECIALLY when you are aware their are special circumstances.
I wouldn’t normally have this strong of an opinion, but mistreatment of kids by teachers hits some special buttons with me so I’m probably being overly sensitive. It’s just a comic after all.
I agree with you, she should take the time to try and explain things better to Modest. She was the one who said there was only one rule, which has proven to not be true.
Think of it like this. Jake has a limited space to convey a set of occurences. Modest misbehaves, gets sent to detention. You can only show so much. Say she didn’t immediately get sent to detention for her initial comment. Given what we know of Modest, would she just take no for an answer, or would she be more likely to argue with the teacher until she either yielded or punished?
No, I agree with you. She (or they, depending on the extent that Jake got involved) could seriously use a better way to teach Modest if she’s doing this for a reason and not just to be mean (which I kind of doubt is the case). Clearly explaining the expectations of class and enforcing those expectations in a more reasonable way would do a whole lot more for the snake girl from another world, I feel…but I’m sure that the real Jake’s got a good plan for this arc. I guess that all we can do is wait and see. ^_^
Well, it appears that Kevin, and a few other commentators, were wrong. The teacher is redeemable! (^_^)-b
-_- I don’t trust her
Im the same way. If I get to upset ( which isn’t very often in general) the teachers know to just leave me be and let me draw. sad part is im 16 and a half
Child psychology level: Master
I like the Legend of Kora fanfic. Seems faster and more sensible than the series, which I’m still watching my way through!
She’s like a dog going to the vet.
I hate you. I hate you. I hate you…
Hands her chocodile
…
I love you. I love you. I love you.
