– Hi everyone. I’d like to mention that you can support my work on Patreon or Ko-fi (or by ordering stuff from my store). I’m sure you won’t be surprised to find that I don’t make much. Since the pandemic money has been especially tight, and I’ve had to spend more and more time on freelance work and commissions to pay the bills. Which means less time making comics and art for you all to enjoy. Recently things have improved a little due to several very generous readers, but I could still use your support. If you can spare a small monthly contribution through Patreon or a tip through Ko-fi I’d really appreciate. Your support directly help finance both my comics work and pay my living expenses!
I expect the mermaid caught the disturbance in the force being one of the few magical creatures in the area.
Whooooaaaaa!
I expect that the mermaid felt that disturbance in the force. And now I am wondering like everyone else how her friends will treat her now that they have had dose of what the magical world can be.
Somebody’s been watching too many cartoons.
Cool! Medusa brand bug spray, it’s super effective.
“And everyone’s teeth came back, too.”
I was waiting for the next update to say this: Now that I look closely, I don’t think that those are really millipedes or centipedes or whatever, they look more like disembodied spines, and they’re unnaturally large. So are they a species unique to Yeld and perhaps the toothfacers? Is that just how you draw millipedes? Does toothfacer magic make them grow that big?
On another note, I asked about them being in a space-sci-fi setting because an uncommon trope you’ll see is a sapient species being made up of individual colonial organisms like the Portuguese manowar, having apparently evolved that way naturally, like Halo’s Lekgolo for example, and the setting where the Gallimaufry takes place in has a very, very diverse range of intelligent species. So I was wondering how you would feel about Toothfacers being in a sci-fi setting as a spacefaring race, where their biology is simply seen as an example of the incredible vast diversity throughout the universe, or maybe it wouldn’t work since toothfacers have magical properties like hammerspace innards and apparently assimilating any small creature into their hivemind, unless magic is common in said specific setting among the galactic or intergalactic community.
I consider Modest Medusa to be a sci-fi setting. That probably won’t make sense unless you’ve deep dived into Yeld lore.
I think Toothfacers would fit into a sci-fi setting in the way you described just fine.
The Toothfacer’s bugs are specifically drawn to look like spines! I think what happens with Toothfacer physiology is that the magic slowly changes the bugs from normal bugs to things like this which are capable of acting as teh Toothfacer’s structure inside teh bag. they’re not actually bones. We have seen that Toothfacers eventually develop bones and organs as well though. It could be that with enough time they develop a fully human style internal structure that replaces the bugs.
Oh yeah, I obviously don’t know enough about Yeld, but I use the term sci-fi-fantasy when a work contains both. Now this version of earth is clearly that, seeing as it’s a superhero style kitchen sink. People being aware and used to it is why I guess that they’re surprised but not too surprised about things like gorgons, mermaids, and portals to a magical fantasy world.
Yeah. I think people see Modest and think “Well, no superhero is trying to get her and she looks like a kid so this is probably fine.”
GORGONHAMEHA!
Ha.
Now sing this like “Guantanamera”
And Ha Yun (who was excited about Modest’s potential abilities) was unconscious for all of this
Ha Yun? I don’t remember that name.
Ha Yoon. Modest’s vampire obsessed friend who got very scared and fainted a few panels back.
Well, that’s new.
Here we see what it feels like to turn on a military grade flashlight.
LEVEL UP
Modest’s crown slowly forming into its full form is the best part of this
I’m a sucker for scenes like these.
More righteous fury from the unlikely hero please.
