Actually, after riding for some time, you can get some skills in maintaining balance and so being able to ride with only one arm, I already did. Sure, it harder to take turns, though he might have practiced before or after the incident.
…yeah…keeping balance. I’m sure he get right into doing that with no problems whatsoevr after losing about 5% of his body weight on one side.
Admittedly, that is a fairly good reason why he should go out and do it. I mean, he has to relearn how to balance. But maybe he should go to physical therapy first? It has only been what? A week?
I’m not sure. I know there are single armed/handed people who have bikes, so either they just deal with it or they have special bikes. Maybe he has pedal breaks?
The right break is the rear wheel, the right shifter is also the rear shifter (which usually has more than the front, the front gear is like a multiplier for the back gear). So as unlucky as it is to have one arm, at least it’s his right (biking wise).
Both hands have a break, but the front brake has much more stopping power…to the point of probably being unstable if you have only a single arm. If I had only a right arm, I’d keep the brakes as is. If only a left arm, I’d switch the rear brake to the left side.
Traditionally, the right hand lever controls the rear brake. This could be a problem, since the rear has much less stopping power and is more prone to locking up. However, some people prefer to set up their brakes “moto-style”, with the front brake on the right. (This can be helpful for people who regularly ride both bicycles and motorcycles, since the right hand controls the front brakes on a motorcycle.) I suppose it might be possible to design some kind of linked system so that a single lever could control both brakes, but I suspect it would be a little tricky.
The good news is, the right hand controls the rear shifter, and many newer bikes don’t have a front shifter. Who needs a multi-speed crank when you have a twelve speed cassette? (Note- I’m writing this from the future, and I don’t remember exactly where various tech was in 2014. I gradually drifted away from cycling over the years, due mostly to knee problems and jagoffs stealing my bikes.)
Wait, am I keeping you away from Fanime? If so, go ahead and go. I didn’t get a table (although I tried). Or are you just telling me you won’t be there?
why does it seem like you are going to set it up so that the next sticker is going to be either finn the human or jake the dog?
They’ve gotten so used to the snake girl that they don’t even try to disguise her anymore.
Did they ever?
Sort of when they took her to the Pokemon release.
suddenly discovering that it’s adventure time is a fun feeling
huh, riding a bike with one arm would be a bit hard wouldn’t it

I’ve done this plenty of times.

About 5 weeks.
I oft ride without even using either my arms. Even cornering works out though my turn circle is of course larger when not using my handlebars.
Earlier today I was braiding my hair while riding along the pier. I messed it up when I had to stop for a stoplight though..
Wow.
I can do that too! I’ve been doing it for like a year since I was 13.
Can you work the breaks with only the right hand? I forget which wheel the right break works.

It’s the back wheel. I should probably use both brakes, but only really use the right one and it works out fine.
Just using the left one is… less fun.
Cheers!

Perhaps he has a recumbent bicycle designed for amputees, I’ve seen returnee vets with some tricked out special gear.
Maybe he has a kid’s bike, where you backpedal to stop.

G** d***it Charles, you just doomed us all!
You’d think she’d have had enough adventure to last her awhile.
. . . Oh. And . . . I’m caught up. Noo! Now I have to wait like everyone else to find out what happens during adventure time!
Wonderful comic. It will definitely be going into my list of regular reads. 🙂
Glad you liked it!
If you’re going to Fanime this year, I won’t be attending.
Wait, am I keeping you away from Fanime? If so, go ahead and go. I didn’t get a table (although I tried). Or are you just telling me you won’t be there?
You told the Snake girl…….from a magical world…..to have an Adventure! He does not realize the horrors he may have just unleashed!
