I’ve read that it’s not actually any more dangerous to sleep with a concussion than it is to stay awake. If you’re going to die of a brain bleed it’ll happen either way.
I believe it’s not so much dangerous in itself. Rest is important for concussion. It’s about being able to monitor the injured person for responsiveness to assess if they are going into shock or losing consciousness. Plus throwing up can be a risk because the trauma can can cause nausea, and throwing up while sleepy and impaired is a high choking risk
Good point!
It’s freezing that gets worse if you fall asleep.
Moving around a lot with a concussion can be bad though, like if you’re riding a horse or… oh my! Not that walking would be better, so it cannot be helped.
Somehow, this comic is the first time I’m hearing about this! (and google does say it’s mostly debunked by now) Could be an USA thing. I forgot, do portals to Yeld open anywhere or are they restricted to America(s)?
It’s been more or less debunked by this point (though the Knight likely wouldn’t know about that, since he came to Yeld way before there was an accurate understanding of internal injuries and reliable methods of examining peoples’ insides without just cutting them open). The misconception was most likely due to people dying of internal bleeding caused by the same injury that gave them the concussion.
Sleep/rest is important for the healing process so you actually DO want to do it after getting a concussion… provided you aren’t showing any signs of neurological damage or the condition getting worse, and ideally you’d want somebody nearby to keep an eye on you as well. You also probably want to get your head examined by a doctor ASAP.
There were not that many wars called “The War”. Also, people calling WWI “The War” tend to be shocked when told that there was second world war already (and we may be close to third).
MM has always been interesting, however now, it’s becoming fascinating, (right eyebrow raises).
Oh, he is much older than I thought. That explains the clothes.

I have no idea. But its something you hear all the time, so I think its something he’d probably say.
Right, especially if his knowledge of human biology comes mostly from being a boy in the very beginning of the 20th century.
Yeah.

They probably open anywhere. I guess we’ve only seen Americans use them so far.

He’s over a hundred years old?! He looks good or his age.
My, does Marah have news for him…
“The war” is still ambiguous. US Civil war? Revolutionary war? War of 1812? 30-years-war?
If he’s guessing 1919 as the year he first arrived in Yeld, then it’s a safe bet he’s referring to World War 1.
Well, he said 1919, so he’s probably referring to WWI. That ran from from 1914-1918.

At least it wasn’t the Hundred Years War!
