– Hi everyone! I had a nice little break over the holidays, and I’m happy to be back to this story. I hope you had a nice few weeks too.
– Marah HAS seen a Toothfacer before, but never up close. Like a lot of things she’s seen in Yeld, she really has no idea what they are.
I want to remind you all that the Kickstarter for the new edition of the Yeld TTTRP is launching next week (Friday the 12th). Our launch page is up, so you can be signed up to notify when the project is live. This Kickstarter is a huge deal for my brother Nick and I and a culmination of several years of work. Or in other words, this is why I’ve been so busy for the last 2 years! So please check it out if you get a chance!
Likely not the first thing they though of when she asked the question.
Probably not. I don’t think its THAT uncommon in Yeld for someone to see an unusual person and not know what they are. There’s lots over people that look very unusual, and lots of Monsters that look enough like people that you might not tell teh difference until they try to eat you. But in a small community like this where everyone knows everyone, they wouldn’t expect that question. Also, Toothfacers only make up a very small percentage of Yeld’s population, but they’re still relatively common. There are plenty of people in Yeld who have never met a Toothfacer, (and in some parts of Yeld they’re even treated like monsters and used to scare kids), but you’d have to live somewhere pretty isolated to have never heard of Toothfacers.
Ah, right, this’ll be Marah’s first encounter with a Toothfacer, isn’t it? OK, honey, try not to freak…
She did encounter one while she was traveling with the pirates, but it was a pretty brief moment and it doesn’t look like she actually talked with them. it also may not have clicked that Ms. Tilly and the person she saw are the same type of creature.
To be fair, her last previous encounter with a Toothfacer was both brief and… well, identifying what race someone is tends to be pretty low on your list of priorities when you’re running/fighting for your life.
she’s got a real heart! the centipedes like nibbling on it
I’m now just imagining a heart in a jar, being held in her body by centipedes.
Woah, woah, Marah, you can’t just ask that!
“Oh my god, Harry, you can’t just ask people why they don’t have a nose…”
Oh dang, I’ve caught up! I got told about your comic on Friday and boy howdy if I didn’t get nothing done this weekend!
Great work on the comic Jake! It definitely hits a niche I love and you do a great job with the story and characters, I am very interested in seeing what happens with Marah. Hope 2024 and beyond is good to you and to Modest Medusa!
Thanks for reading! I’m glad you liked it.
She’s had time to fully wake up now, so not sure if we should give her a pass on being rude, but then again, she didn’t understand what a pirate actually was well into her adulthood, so maybe we still should. Also just for context, she should have instead stated that she wasn’t from their world and so wouldn’t know why someone like Miss Tilly has artificial skin.
I don’t know if anyone would believe her if she said she wasn’t from their world.
It’s not a totally unreasonable question when you’re in a world where there are many different species that fall under “person”.
I have to admit, I’ve gone this whole time thinking Toothfacers are mostly monsters. I didn’t know they were as common as they are until I read your post
Yeah, its never been made super clear. I think it really depends on where you are in Yeld. Modest knew Toothfacers as monsters that steal your teeth. Ina lot of Yeld stories like that are told, and they’re true. A lot of Toothfacers do live like monsters, and Toothfacer bandits are really common too. Theres also a LOT of non-humanoid Toothfacers (who we’ve never really seen) that live off on their own and never interact with the other people of Yeld exact to eat them or chase them away.
But there are Toothfacers who live in towns and cities, and behave more or less like anyone else. They’re not very common, and depending on what part of Yeld you live in you may never have seen one. But they often show up in the larger cities. there are also communities that are made up entirely of Toothfacers. These tend to be issolated.
