I’m kind of wondering where they are in relation to the main building. Now that I think about it, I have no idea where in the building the passage is. Is it in the middle of the building, to the side, on the edge? It does seem they took the stars down to get to this part of it anyway.
I think the Janitor’s closet was probably toward the middle of the building.
At the middle school I went to we had locker rooms that were in the basement. Down the stairs to the locker rooms, then up one of tow flights of different stairs to either the gym or sports field. In my second year there I was SHOCKED to discover there was a second basement level with a weight room and an enormous gymnastics room, as well as a set off offices for the PE teachers and a clinic of some kind. This entire level had been locked off years before
I confess I have spent an exceptionally small amount of time in boys’ locker rooms, but I’m failing to see how the adjective “crunchy” applies to the floors thereof unless there’s either something very wrong with this locker room (entirely possible) or there’s something I don’t know about locker rooms (also possible).
Regardless, the very-low-Cool-stat classmate whose name I have forgotten is my new facvorite character.
Being a boy and having gone through middle and high school, I can confirm that the floors are indeed NOT “crunchy”, except maybe if the tiles are so old/worn that they’ve gotten brittle enough to break under the kids’ feet… which is very unlikely unless this locker room is older than Jake’s great grandparents.
My money’s on the locker room somehow being tied to those bugs we’ve been seeing lately.
Well…this was certainly the direct opposite of what we were all expecting, wasn’t it? So, wait, was this once a junior high/high school that got remodeled at some point?
A lot of the older schools in Portland were K-8th grade or 3rd through high school. Later (by the tike I was in school) they got separated out to proper elementary, middle and high schools. So this probably used to be a middle school.
Modest not having pants makes sense, but between dress codes and the other girls having skirts, I am surprised Modest does not wear a small skirt or more dresses.

I have this on RSS and saw the title first, straight up was about to think I had missed a few pages.
Nice Temple of Doom reference
Thank you.

But it’s a creeEEeepy locker room!

She does sometimes. I suppose it could have been a conversation that came up.
