Hi everyone. I took most of July off, but I’ll be returning next week (likely Weds the 9th of August) with new strips. In the meantime, here’s Modest Medusa as Barbie! I saw the Barbie movie this week and thought it was pretty funny. I think Modest would enjoy it too (although I doubt she’d know what a Barbie is. Her toybox seems pretty limited.)
I’ll also be at the Artist Alley Comics Fest in Portland this Saturday. This is a small show focusing on local artists, and it should be a lot of fun. Come see me!
Also, the Modest Medusa Season 5 pre-order store is now open! So if you missed out on the last Kickstarter you can pre-order all that stuff now, including the brand new 48 Hour Modest Medusa book. I’m hoping to ship orders in September.
(Read below for stuff about anxiety and stress)
I ended up taking an extra two weeks for my vacation, and I wish I could say it was successful. I think I may have just lost the ability to relax. I ended up spending most of the time catching up on work, chores and business stuff I’ve put off. I did have a chance to play some games (Remnant 2 and Etrian Odyssey V) and read a book (the Fifth Season). Coming back to work I feel like my anxiety and stress are as high as ever, and if anything I’m even more exhausted than I was before my vacation started. It may have helped to actually go somewhere instead of staying in town, but that wasn’t in my budget. Its a little frustrating to not take a vacation for most of a decade and then when I finally do it just… doesn’t work. I’m not sure what to do about that.
On the other hand, coming back to the comic DOES feel good. I’m looking forward to the next set of strips and the new season. Working on the comic always makes me happy, no matter how much stress and anxiety I feel. Its probably what has kept me going all these years!
Medusa Barbie! <3
How did you like the Fifth Season? I read the trilogy I think… Last year?
I liked it a lot. I got through it very fast, and I’m eager for more. I read the Inheritance Trilogy year or two ago and thought that was great as well.
LOL!
Now give her a nuke.
I love this! But mostly because I’ve recently read through all of Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service recently and I thought it was Modest as the bug-loving student from Ohio who helps them on a case, then read later it was Barbie. Still awesome though!
ha. I should read the rest of that series. I only have the first volume.
(Haven’t had time to make comments lately.) Personally, as much as I believe that any work should be judged on it’s own merits, I’ve chosen not to see the Barbie movie do to the fact that it claims the existence of what’s blatantly the Alt-Left’s equivalent of the devil, and I don’t want to support a studio that does that. It actually took me a couple of seconds to realize that the gold snakes were supposed to be Barbie’s blonde hair. So you’re saying that the movie was actually good? Cuz if it is then I might be willing to see it if I can avoid supporting the films creators.
“it claims the existence of what’s blatantly the Alt-Left’s equivalent of the devil”
I can’t even imagine what this is in reference to. Can you elaborate? Also, what do you think the “Alt Left” is?
Yes, its surprisingly good. I had no intention of seeing it either, but I’m glad I did.
I’m talking about this “Patriarchy” nonsense, it was clearly just an idea invented by third wave feminists, more accurately called feminazis, as a boogeyman for their self victimization campaign, and to set themselves up against masculists (Men’s Rights Activists) as their personal rivals. Also by Alt Left I’m referring to radical liberals, you know, sjws before someone spread a rumor to change the definition to refer to all liberals. I suspect that it was done by said sjws to defend themselves from criticism, but I could be wrong, or it could have been more than one group. Personally I don’t think that those people deserve the title of “Liberals” even less “Progressives”. Anyway, I said “equivalent to the devil” because a generation back, what we knew as sjws were actually on the conservative side in large numbers (I think that they were called moral guardians), like they’ve been represented in popular culture, basically their main schtick was claiming that everything created as a result of culture and art progressing forward (among other things) was “the work of the devil” (in retrospect it was all really silly and ridiculous), this is similar to how modern sjws, modern moral guardians, poser activists, whatever you want to call them, the rest of the alt left, have adopted the term patriarchy from feminazis and used it exactly the same as the previous generation used “work of the devil”, or otherwise call their critics various synonyms for bigot(, equally as ridiculous as it was before). Thank you so much for lending an ear, this is one place that I know of where I can criticize something without someone acting like I’m on the opposite extremist political team, those people have really infested Quora, unless they’re those Russian agent trolls that my dad told me about. I still think that it’s completely ridiculous that Trump ever had supporters in the first place. Lastly, sorry that I’m posting so late, I’m atrociously bad at time management.
You do you, but I don’t agree with this. That probably doesn’t surprise you though.
If you’re interested we could have a discussion about this at some point. You explain more about what you mean, and I’ll do the same. I’m pretty burned out now, but I’d make time for that at some point if you want.
…A patriarchy is a society lead by males (as opposed to a matriarchy, which is lead by females). The world is de facto lead by males – Very rarely are there female leaders
You may want to re-evaluate things said by your dad. Media is good at manipulation, as it’s easier to target feelings to get people to ignore facts. Yes, this does apply to both sides, I am not going to argue that. But please, re-evaluate things and look into sources of what is said
Huh, didn’t expect you to watch a Barbie movie! It’s that good?
And feel free to rest whenever you want, your health is important!
I didn’t expect to either. I have 0 interest in Barbie. I don’t hate it or anything, but I think about it as much as I think about football, stamp collecting or wine tasting.
I thought the trailer looked fun, and thought I might watch it at some point online in the distant future. But some of my housemates invited me to go see it and so I went along. I’m glad I did! I thought it was very funny and clever.
