– I know I made a big deal earlier this season about how thick Fairy skin is and how stab proof it is. Here Shut Up is specifically stabbing into an open wound. Its a trick she learned from Shin!
The best part is that he has no idea what’s coming. He has no way of knowing that she just tapped into a fiction where the most unassuming of creatures can tear the laws of physics to shreds just by looking at them funny.
This just looks like a weird rabbit to him. He doesn’t know it’s a lightning strike given flesh.
Yeah, if you think about it Pokemon fights are weird. “You have a Mon that can literally tear reality a new one and you use it in in some kind of cockfight against a mouse that controls lightning?” “Yeah!”
Assuming it is actually a lightning strike given flesh, and not a luck bunny cosplaying as one. Modest is still using Yeldian magic, and could have just cast a reskinned version of Summon Luck Bunny I.
Definitely a possibility, but I’d say that the fact that the spell literally had a pokeball in it does lend credence to the idea it might be a functionally real Pikachu.
I think that is Modest herself, at least the Modest the Prince thinks is destined for her to be; a powerful sorceress that can call upon the knowledge already in her mind due to the Prince-lookalike’s meddling, though that’s probably not a bad thing in this case. The door opening may just be a metaphor, for her at that moment, all the knowledge now flooding to her in her mind, the one the princess of the Queen and Prince of Yeld had wanted— though this is my speculation. That is what I took from those few panels.
Ok so while this is awesome, you should REALLY change that design to be less exactly like Pikachu, Nintendo has gone completely bonkers and at this point I wouldn’t be shocked if you suddenly got a cease and desist from them or a threat of a lawsuit
While I doubt you’ll have a problem, this is a very clear fair use. If Nintendo does happen to C&D you, contact the EFF. Even if they won’t take the case themselves, they have a lot of attorneys that they can send the info to, and most likely at least one will help you. I had to use it once when I got some total BS threats about a site I hosted, and I had an attorney contact me the next day and give me some advice, all for free. There’s a lot of lawyers out there that don’t like seeing the copyright laws abused.
Its more based on their recent rampages that I’m worried. I’m REALLY hoping that if they keep it up, they pick on the wrong group and get some sense smacked hard into them because I do hate how aggressive they’ve been the past few months
The tricky part, is that you can be entirely in the right, and they can still destroy you financially through ruinous civil suits. You can win the case in court every single time, but the mounting legal fees of having to defend yourself over and over will bankrupt you.
This is what happened to Backpage.com. They never failed to prove they were innocent of any wrongdoing, but the rule that you can’t be tried for the same crime more than once is a lot fuzzier in civil court, and the anti-consensual-sex lobbyists had lots more money to waste on lawyers than the BP guys did.
Man, Modest sure is a freak about her game stuff. I dunno if it was a good idea to leave luck to Heaven, like that, though. It could easily turn into a Catastropika.
ā¦ wait. Is it too late to take back that last one?
Good question. In the Yeld game the spell is called “Call Imaginary Friend”, and allows the caster to call into existence a creature that they can control. In Yeld (the fictional place) this is traditionally a Luck Bunny, because most young casters who learn the spell learn it from people who learned to call Luck Bunnies. And they learned it the same way. So the Luck Bunny is a tradition (and a well loved creature in Yeld. Magicians summon them for parties and festivals, and kids have Luck Bunny dolls and toys. The Rabbit Sword that Shut Up loves so much is inspired by the Luck Bunny). but Each Luck Bunny is a little different (as Ecksbocks noted earlier in the season). Your luck Bunny won’t look quite like mine, and it will have a different temperament and maybe even different abilities. Most Luck Bunnies are fast and brave, and protect young casters from small monsters or help them find their way home when they’re lost (a lot of kids in Yeld or magically adept, so learn the spell when they’re pretty young). But not everyone who casts the spell gets a Luck Bunny. Some culture who use the spell call very different creatures into being. The Fairies (who were around longer than anyone) summoned wooden snakes (like a puppet kind of thing). A kid from our world, who doesn’t know what a Luck Bunny is and has only their own imagination to work with might end up with something like a Muppet or an ordinary cat or their favorite teddy bear. Or a Pokemon. Unlike the other Call spells which summon actual living creatures that already exist in other places (like the Escape Goat and War Hares) this spell seems to create a creature from scratch out of pure magic.
Would it be wrong to assume that, as a “male” Hydra and as the chosen heir to become Princess of Yeld, Modest’s version of the spell would be more powerful than another caster’s?
If I used it I’d get a mew (the gnd version (mew used to be a god but then arceus came) pokemon) with the powers of Saitama from One Punch Man. R.I.P. all my enemies.
a copyrighted lucky bunny
A copyrighted lucky bunny that’s going to rip the Abolisher a new one.
The best part is that he has no idea what’s coming. He has no way of knowing that she just tapped into a fiction where the most unassuming of creatures can tear the laws of physics to shreds just by looking at them funny.

And what if he did? What if he did, and he ran, and the kids were confused….
And he can’t outrun a pikachu.
The Abolisher’s not a nice guy, but I’m not sure he deserves having Nintendo’s copyright lawyers unleashed on him.
Then again, he could have just left when Auntie told him to…
ROFL!
Previous panel’s tragedy aside, this one ended AWESOME.
Heads up, comic’s super low res for some reason. Did nothing to detract from this amazing reveal though
Is it? It shouldn’t be. Is anyone else experiencing that?
It looks fine to me. I’m loving these long, many-paneled comics by the way.
Weird. Maybe my phone is janking it up for some reason. Last page looks fine though so I dunno why this one’s acting up
alright, definitely my phone, looks fine on my home computer.
Good to know. Thanks.
Low res on phone, borderline illegible. Looks fine on laptop though.
This is referring to every page on this site, btw.
Thats… interesting. Not the case on my phone. I’ll try to look into that.
She used the “I Choose You” spell.
Laughed so hard tears came to my eyes. Good job!
So did I. Fantastic reveal!
Oh my gosh! Yes! Shut Up gets to kick ass and Modest gets herself a Pikachu!
Shut Up is being awesome, and Modest summoning a Pikachu got a big laugh out of me.
Though, who was that behind the door the prince opened up? Is that Modest, her mother, or RT?
I think that is Modest herself, at least the Modest the Prince thinks is destined for her to be; a powerful sorceress that can call upon the knowledge already in her mind due to the Prince-lookalike’s meddling, though that’s probably not a bad thing in this case. The door opening may just be a metaphor, for her at that moment, all the knowledge now flooding to her in her mind, the one the princess of the Queen and Prince of Yeld had wanted— though this is my speculation. Well, now once this is over she’ll be able to charge her DS.
… okay after the last panel I had to clean my coffee from my monitor, 10/10 would spit take again :p
He looks familiar.
I love the little pokeball added to the spell! <3
Thanks.
It looks like Abolisher is blasting off agaaaaaaaiiiinnnnnnn!
*ding!*
I CHOOSE YOU PIKACHU -ty creator you have given me new light
Welp, he’s boned now *grabs popcorn*

I’ve been using Pokemon in the comic for years, and Nintendo has never cared. I’m not overly worried about it.
While I doubt you’ll have a problem, this is a very clear fair use. If Nintendo does happen to C&D you, contact the EFF. Looks like she DID get her pokemon after all.
And as a bonus, he can probably recharge her DS!
I literally LOL’s at that last panel. Well played.
After seeing Pikachu, everyone forgot about the TIE bomber.
I genuinely laughed out loud once I got to the last panel. Bravo Jake, bravo indeed!
So, the Prince (or Princepell) is not the Crownsnake.
Man, Modest sure is a freak about her game stuff. I dunno if it was a good idea to leave luck to Heaven, like that, though. It could easily turn into a Catastropika.

Did anyone else here this music in their head at that last panel (particularly from 0:15 forward):

I would gladly cut off my left arm to be able to summon Pokemon into existence.
What is that pikachu’s level?
Geuss I was right about shut up.
It’s the super crown floating above dream-Modest’s head! Don’t let it rest on her head, or she’ll become Modestette!
Ha.
I think my “YEEEEEEEAHHHH-!” just made a new hole in the ozone.
Hey Jake is that a unique spell or just a modifidied version of the spell we saw x-box use?
Good question. In the Yeld game the spell is called “Call Imaginary Friend”, and allows the caster to call into existence a creature that they can control. In Yeld (the fictional place) this is traditionally a Luck Bunny, because most young casters who learn the spell learn it from people who learned to call Luck Bunnies. So what you’re saying is that luck bunnies are a meme
Would it be wrong to assume that, as a “male” Hydra and as the chosen heir to become Princess of Yeld, Modest’s version of the spell would be more powerful than another caster’s?
It may be. Or just very different.
Thank you for the explanation. One could probably use that spell to materialize their tulpa, huh? A reason enough to migrate to Yeld.
Yeah, I think so.
If I used it I’d get a mew (the gnd version (mew used to be a god but then arceus came) pokemon) with the powers of Saitama from One Punch Man. R.I.P. all my enemies.
All this after Raccoon learned that stabbing things isn’t always the answer. Good thing she wasn’t there to interfere with her newfound enlightenment.
Now I’m seeing her and her sisters as their own dungeon party and trying to assign roles to everyone.
Pikachu I choose you…..literally…..wow
I hope this doesn’t damage Shut Up
Protagonist ex machina u choose you
I ment I not u
(stupid phone messing up everything I say mgrdmmnle)
I absolutely LOVE how quickly this comic balances shit’s getting silly with shit just got real.
I feel like thats how life is. One day it’s the best, the next day everything is falling apart.
Best strip ever.
Thanks.
Waits, it *is* (Call) Imaginary Friend! >o.o<
