Why do I suddenly wouldn’t trust her as much as before?
If she has spells that would work against abolisher wouldn’t be better idea to get Modest there, instead of locking her in unprotected place?
I’m a little more concerned that she’ll be locked in the barn with Science, who may or may not be some kind of New Abolisher sleeper agent after her encounter with one.
Especiallies not at Auntie’s age. >o.o< Auntie is *olds.* An' she wasn't brought up tradtionallies, or to fights. She was a fisherwoman. She's bigs, an' knows magic, but… I dunno. I think she means to win, but I's not sure she can does that *ands* survive.
So… they’re not going to listen to Modest’s father and will instead still try to stay in Yeld? Well, I guess that’s what he gets for being so untrustworthy.
Or… is Naga going to prepare to send Modest back now?
I feel like the story requires for Modest to return to “earth” (or whatchacallit) yet again. Don’t forget that the page titles are still “There and back again” even though we’re on “…, part 216” already.
To be fair, would you listen to him? He’s a shadow of a creep implanted in her mind by the creep.
But even if they are taking it seriously (which they appear to be), it seems not much can be done until the immediate threat is removed. If they rush to get Modest out of there right now they can easily be taken out by the abolisher as they will either all be together or the children (or Modest) will not be protected by Auntie, and it will be very clear Modest is “the one” out of the group as she’ll be the only child being rushed somewhere.
Yeah… I’m worried about Auntie. Isn’t she already older than she should be able to get? Cause she ate her extra snakes to get older. What if casting these spells expends too much energy and eats into her life force or something?
We, the readers, are seeing all of what happened during her trip back to Yeld. Meanwhile, the actual report she’s reading to her class could potentially consist of “During vacation I went back home. I saw my aunt and my sisters. One of them went through puberty. They all live on a farm. The people in town are nice. I saw my dad, kind of. There was a mean guy causing trouble but my aunt took care of it. Then vacation was over so I came back here. The end.”

Maybe the spells aren’t actually all that effective, and it’s just a classic “I’ll be fine” lie?

When the solution is, “Hide in the barn while I deal with it,” it’s time to worry. Bad things happen in barns.
“Bad things happen in barns.”

So even if Naga isn’t going to…
Yep. Plus, if you recall, this entire story arc was framed by Modest doing a ‘what I did on summer vacation’ report in school. So.
Plus this is framed as “what I did on spring break.”
Well, remember that this entire storyline is being told by Modest to her class back on “Earth,” so we already know she’ll be ok.
I’m a bit worried for auntie’s survival though.
Yeah, it’s just a matter of when exactly will it happen.
My sense is Naga is getting ready for a short term confrontation instead of trying to send Modest away immediately.
He can be untrustworthy and still be right in this instance.

Ms. Naga has the ultimate poker face. She could be utterly terrified, but she’s all inscrutable.
Good job triggering that death flag Miss Naga!

Sitting at my chair while my house is on fire. I hold up my coffee and think, “this is fine”.
To paraphrase a sage comedian: Two sneks gon’ die tonight!

Probably something like that.
She’ll want to show off her flame spell. I’m certain of it.
Wait. Is the Abolisher a Faerie? ’cause, I remember Faeries being immune – or, at least, extremely resistant to – magic.
Fairies are more resistant to some magic and less to others. They’re also just hard to kill.
Oh, whoops. I think I got my resistances crossed!
I kinda forgot, faeries are ripped! I mean, highly-resistant to physical harm.
I mean, they’re just really tough in general. Some magic just bounces off them, but other stuff (especially stuff not from Yeld) wrecks them.
Oh my! I just realized, when she finally DOES come back to claim her throne, they will likely be worshiping one of her sisters as an oracle!
What makes you say that?
