What *is* the Leviathan Queen, anyways? >o.o< There's onlies the vaguest hints. (An' those hints seem to involve things that sounds an *awful* lots like giant robots.)
An', yeah, the Deep. Mermaids were literallies created specificallies to assassinate him. (Most ofs them gave up because it was an effectivelies impossible mission for thems, an' since they couldn't reallies return to the Deep — it's not clear ifs the Deep is *evils*, or evens if words like that can applies to it, but it's definitelies not kind — they stayed ins Yeld, an' some started families an' such, while others… well, it varies.)
So the mermaids were really working for good? I call BS!
It would, sort of, explain why the Prince kept Jake locked up so that he couldn’t be influenced by Yeld and would raise Modest properly. Assuming the Prince did want Jake to raise her.
The portal also took her to Charles. Maybe by Yeld standards fish science is the ultimate good and he wanted Charles to raise her.
Interesting. So I wonder what changed such that they then sent the Knight to retrieve her, kidnapped Jake, and then didn’t want her to leave Yeld again.
Well dam, that’s going to affect poor Modest severely. The whole comic happened because The Prince allowed it to. I guess it does explain how there was a portal inside the fish though (aside from the simple “it’s a magic fish” conclusion I had come to.)
I like reusing the old panels in the flashback here. It also shows how much your drawing skills have improved over the years. It’s always cool to look back and see an artist’s improvement. π
Holy Moly! That strip blows minds, Jake!
Though, this image of prince that Ρhe’s talking to is not aware of the facts about Modest, right? It was put inside her brain long before she ran from castle. RT kept him away from acquiring any knowledge of what was happening around. Therefore, he does not know for sure that the plan to send Modest away and to the portal had actually worked.
Given the power of the Prince, simply assuming everything went according to plan is a fairly safe bet and Modest’s reaction will confirm or disprove. Acting as though you have all of the answers convincingly enough is just as good as actually having them, especially when you’re close to that already. Honesty would pierce the illusion of unquestionable superiority and guessing correctly, as he has will reinforce it. Modest’s come a long way but she’s no match for the kinds of games the Prince can play.
Mind blown! That makes me wonder about all of his resistance to her going when she returned, but I guess he thought she was ready to come back. That does explain how her mother knew where she was and where to send the knight. However, I still don’ know how she got Jake’s number…
I’m so sorry you were sick! Hope you’re feeling much improved. Yeah, it’s hot here. I’ve been spending the summer at my aunt’s house in Eugene, and everyone is saying it’s hotter than normal. I’m just glad I’m not going back to Utah until our weather cools down a bit … It actually feels good here. For me π
The Gorgon’s phone call was just plain old magic. She probably doesn’t even know what a phone was. She was just “I want to talk to my daughter, here’s some magic.”
I am feeling better, thanks. It has been hotter than normal pretty much everywhere, right? But I’m afraid thats just the new normal.
Handy magic! Thanks for clarifying. It’s actually been bugging me for a while… π
Glad you’re feeling better! It is hotter than normal all over, sadly, but that makes me even more happy I’m not in Utah. Or worse, with my cousin in Arizona :/
Gasp!/FULL CIRCLE!
“And from our enemies.”
What enemies? Are they rebels, like Princess Leia, or are they like the Srotmcloaks from Skyrim?
There are Oathbreakers (like Urano), the Deep, the Leviathan Queen…

Working for good? Of course not, they were working for cigarettes.
I mean who best to watch over and aquatic snake creature than a marine biologist?
Interesting. So I wonder what changed such that they then sent the Knight to retrieve her, kidnapped Jake, and then didn’t want her to leave Yeld again.
Good question.

I always want to ask authors who have plot twists/progressions like this if they had them planned from the beginning.
Well, didja? …Punk?
“Planned from the beginning” is a little bit of a stretch, but this whole season is something I’ve been thinking about for a long time.
Oh snap! So modestβs Mother let her go off. Maybe she will think twice about her family…
Railroading at its finest π

Right. He probably has some vague ideas about her life since then, but nothing concrete.

Couldn’t he have thought of a safer place for a portal?
We’re getting to that.
Modest: That led to a toilet?”
Prince:…to be fair, I was running on fumes at that point and was surviving on red bull and animal crackers.
Damn, all of it was set up

….. Modest is going to rail against fate I think.
Just as Planned!
It’s fun to see them contrast of the old style of Modest and the most recent style of Modest in the same panel. π
