Hi, I follow your Comic for a while now, but I never commented. I’ll change that now 🙂
I find Modests choice of words interesting. “Then you sent me away!”
Seems like part of her wished she could stay with her father despite him being evil.
Hi. Thanks for commenting. You’re right, I chose that phrase carefully. Modest doesn’t know her real father and what little contact with him she had scared and scarred her badly. But part of is still very hurt that he didn’t want her and sent her away, and when she came back they sent her away again.
That detail makes the whole scene with the prince back in yeld delightfully complicated. I mean he didn’t intend to let her go back then. He wanted her to stay in yeld. Marah fought and died so Modest can go to our world.
I just reread the whole scene and I noticed that Modest said “I just want to go home” when the prince asked her what she wanted and everyone (including me) just assumed she meant she wanted to go with Jake. Maybe that’s not what she meant.
Later she interupted the fight and claimed she want to stay, but Marah did not accept it.
It seems they should have ask Modest about her feelings back then instead just making decisions for her. On the other hand staying in yeld with the prince probably wouldn’t be the best thing for her either….
I think that interaction was complicated for her. I think she never really thought much about her father at all (she didn’t really have any memories of him), but meeting him suddenly and learning that he could have been part of her life, but chose not too be, confused and hurt her a lot in ways she wasn’t expecting and hadn’t probably ever really thought about before.
hm….maybe the real him turned evil due to being too long in yeld? whereas the part in her mind is still not-so evil…
….on a side note, am i the only one thinking of horcruxes here? i mean with a part of the bad guy locked away in someone´s mind, and him being close to a snake…..
This is like arguing with a videotape (OK, children, back when dinosaurs roamed the earth we didn’t watch everything on DVDs and bluerays). The only answers she’s going to get are things that the Prince guessed she might ask.
Okay, I was wrong. She didn’t know!
So is that why that one snake was sometimes bad?
That would explain the little crown!

Its more complicated than that. Its more like a limited copy of the Prince himself than a recording.
