Actually, Modest thought she’d stoned him, but she doesn’t actually have that ability while on Earth.
I’m not sure if it was ever explicitly stated, but its actually that her hair can choose whether or not to deploy their venom.
How did he get unstoned? I remember that was pretty permanent for Jenny’s friend.
Just before Modest returned to Yeld to meet her Aunt Naga, Modest and Gene (who went by Gina back then) got into a fight and one of Modest’s snakes bit Gene.
Gene was NOT petrified, but Modest was afraid that it was going to happen since her hair had petrified Jenny’s friend way back during Modest’s first trip to Yeld.
Maybe that should be pronounced with a long e,
for someone who understands different species?
