I don’t remember how old all those little medusas were supposed to be (and if they develop their consciousnes the same as humans) but it looks like they’d be at their preoperational stage (according to Piaget) having difficulty of taking the viewpoint of others. So.. they’re about 6 years old?
Empathy is not: how would you feel if x happened to you. Empathy always is feeling what the other feels. False empathy is a good way to misjudge situations and it’s too self centered. In this situation, it still might do the trick. Just don’t let Bangladesh Dupree teach her…
What a weird mentality Raccoon has. She apparently knows enough to know that being stabbed hurts and “puts people to sleep”… but at the same time, she had, up to that point, no qualms with doing it to other people.
We’ve already seen Charles losing an arm and Jenny losing an eye, so I don’t think an off-panel stabbing of an unnamed redshirt is going to change the comic’s rating.
Pour ethics on the child

Probably.
Modest has been learning all the moral lessons so far. It’s time that her sisters learn a few.
Is he a raccoon? My friend in Northwest has a raccoon living beneath her building — <3 so cute!
He’s not. Raccoon is just his name. He’s a Fairy.

Dangit Raccoon, people die when they are killed!
+1

Strange stuff…
Wow Raccoon, your words cut really deep.
Like being stabbed.
It really gets to the point.
Well at least one of them is taking responsibility.
Woah! This moral relativism may be more complicated than I expected!
(The snake in panel 3 is literally trying to twist his head around the concept.)
Also: I think Modest is more developed than her sisters? She’s said to have been different somehow, eh? She seems a whole lot smarter anyways.
As Modest herself said, she didn’t grow up in that cool cave.
yeah well those people did other bad stuff too probably!

She’s having a hard time wrapping her head around empathy.
ok I’m back what did I miss whoa, things got a lot stabyer while I was away
Well, at least Raccoon isn’t just teaching her to stab people. 🙂
