You think so? The other three of that exact model were purchased by fat sweaty guys in their 40s who carried it home giggling creepily all the way, after asking the vendor vague questions about stain resistance.
Fridge Horror: When something seems okay at first glance, but in the time it takes to hit the fridge and come back, you’ve thought of some horrible implications.
The implication here, presumably, is “Someone wants to boff Steven Universe.”
As I mentioned earlier, the strip original contained the line” There’s one I ordered on accident…”, which was meant to imply that it was a non-nsfw one, and something he wouldn’t normally carry. But I guess utting the line made it seem worse.
There are more and more vendors who are selling non-sexy pillows now though.
“Fridge Logic” are thoughts that kind of pop into your head either at random or while you’re thinking too hard about a particular topic, usually while doing something that neither keeps your focus or requires much thinking power such a doing dishes, taking a shower, or as per the example, staring into the refrigerator while looking for a snack.
“Fridge Horror” is the same thing, but instead of idle or neutral thoughts, your brain turns to “worse case scenarios” or “horrifying possibilities.”
I believe the troper commenter had a thought along the lines of “Why was this guy selling a cuddle-pillow of a distinctly-underaged character?” Or… they were considering the possibilities of what someone not Steven’s age would do with that pillow, were they to buy it.
That said, I, too, recoil at the very thought of strapping that Steven pillow down, making sure its comfortable, then hopping into the carpool lane. How revolting. Some people are just the worst.
Think about the purpose of that pillow. Then think about the age of the character on the pillow.
This qualifies as fridge horror since we, the audience, know Modest’s interest is purely innocent, but it’s very existence is creepy when you think about it. I think I know why the guy selling it was keeping it in the back.
Character pillows are pretty common though. We had a big Care Bear pillow growing up, and I’m niece had an R2 D2 pillow. You can hump anything I guess, but character pillows are fun.
In both shows, the manga & anime for KnJ, just the anime for Railgun (didn’t read it). There’s a large bear stuffie that the girls, um, vent their frustrations with… nothing graphic… mostly. Railgun does it for the laughs, but KnJ is about girls growing up, there’s no doubt about what’s happening there.
It doesn’t matter what the bear looks like, any stuffed animal large enough for a young girl to stick between her legs and rub against can (often just a matter of when, not if) end up used for masturbation. Same for pillows (body pillows are just easier to use that way). It’s just a fact of life, and part of growing up.
The (female) author of Kodomo no Jikan was keen on pushing limits and showing more of the reality of growing up for girls. This sometimes led to very uncomfortable sequences even for female readers (like the one on inserting a tampon, complete with diagrams) but also some genuinely frank sections showing Rin using the teddy bear that were handled a lot better.
I thought about that. It would have been fun. I also almost did Ruby and Sapphire. But in the end it would have been awkward to show both sides in one panel (although i could have done an inset showing the other side, I guess.
Same on both sides? Well I guess I learned something new about body pillows just now, though i’d have to look it up to be sure which isn’t going to happen.
Why can’t everybody share my harmless sexual desire for underaged deceased moles and mole rats of the obvious gender instead of this icky stuff.
This just went from “weird” to “daww.” Now, she can go do Gem Things™ with Steven, for real!
… … …
Um. Wait. I should rephrase that…
That’s not the Team Rocket one I was expecting.
It’s actually more disturbing. Why would 18+ only pillows have a little kid on them?
The original dialog was “I have one that I ordered by accident…”
I have noticed that some of these sellers are starting to carry non-sexy pillows. I’ve been thinking about doing a Modest Medusa one.
I, uh… I’m not sure that’s a good idea…?
Make a WWF Wrestling Buddy, instead. Hee hee~
I might buy one – she is adorable enough that I would like to cuddle her.
I think it would be really cute.
A victory for wholesomeness!
You think so? The other three of that exact model were purchased by fat sweaty guys in their 40s who carried it home giggling creepily all the way, after asking the vendor vague questions about stain resistance.
(You’re welcome.)
There’s some serious fridge horror on this page.
Can you explain?
Fridge Horror: When something seems okay at first glance, but in the time it takes to hit the fridge and come back, you’ve thought of some horrible implications.
The implication here, presumably, is “Someone wants to boff Steven Universe.”
Ahhh. Okay.
As I mentioned earlier, the strip original contained the line” There’s one I ordered on accident…”, which was meant to imply that it was a non-nsfw one, and something he wouldn’t normally carry. But I guess utting the line made it seem worse.

That makes sense now that its been explained. I thought it was a reference to something else.
Think about the purpose of that pillow. Then think about the age of the character on the pillow.

…AND STEVEN!
Modest has the best of snuggle pillows!
You have chosen… wisely.
While this is adorable–I’m still slightly creeped out by the inappropriate ways that Steven body pillow could be used.
Character pillows are pretty common though. We had a big Care Bear pillow growing up, and I’m niece had an R2 D2 pillow. You can hump anything I guess, but character pillows are fun.
Oh. Oh. We’re using this kind of open-and-honest language in the comments, are we? Weeell, this changes everything, now dunnit~?
Nah-nah, I’ll be good, Mistah J! Hones’!
I once had a character pillow. But without a character. And i was about 8 years old. Simply liked hugging pillows.
Yeah. My siblings and I loved giant pillows when we were kids.
That’s just called a body pillow.
Anything… like that unfortunate bear in Kodomo no Jikan… or another (similar looking) bear in Certain Scientific Railgun… (for girls, eh?)
I’m not familiar with kodomo no Jikan, and I haven’t real Railgun since it came out, so I guess I don’t remember what you’re referring to.
In both shows, the manga & anime for KnJ, just the anime for Railgun (didn’t read it). There’s a large bear stuffie that the girls, um, vent their frustrations with… nothing graphic… mostly. Huh. I don’t remember that at all. But its been a looooong time since I read that.

Yeah, just a fact of life. Although I don’t anticipate that ever being something that this comic will focus on.
Adoubou. I remember seeing a bunch of decidedly tame dakimakura at a recent con, and they were amusing.
They’re becoming more common.
It BETTER be the same on both sides
What about Steven on one side, and Connie on the other?
I thought about that. It would have been fun. I also almost did Ruby and Sapphire. But in the end it would have been awkward to show both sides in one panel (although i could have done an inset showing the other side, I guess.

I seem to remember that MA3 had a Halloween strip involving a body pillow brought to life.. eew!
MA3?
While I haven’t read it myself, I believe he’s referring to “Ménage à 3”, a webcomic with significant sexual content.
Oh. I think I’ve heard of that.
Ménage a trois
Ah.
Yep: innocent and wholesome, just like I said.
And so Steven Universe Future’s version of Steven would be like, “Classic Steven?! . . . on a body pillow? Huh.” ^^’
He could use it as a decoy in Steven Tag.
We…
… I was hoping to start a chain of replies, with each person quoting the SU theme… 🙁
I’m sorry. I should have caught on.
Catching up, but had to chime in that yes I like pervy AND kid-friendly humor so you’re awesome for capturing both here.
Thank you!
