Question: Do you (or Modest) like Steven Universe? If so, will there ever be a mention/reference?
We do. There have been a few references to Steven Universe in the comic, including a series of strips in Season 5 where modest and Charles talk about fusing.
This has been bugging me for some time Jake, so in the Modest verse which I assume is a superhero scifi fantasy kitchen sink why do people act surprised by the paranormal? It seems like they’re all right between accepting it exists and not knowing it exists, wouldn’t it make more sense if they just consider the paranormal as normal? I guess the quickest explanation is that they know it exists but it’s kind of a rare occurence like getting injured or a house catching fire. Idunno I guess this trope in fiction kinda irks me.
It something I’ve never wanted to go too deeply into because it gets away from the themes of the comic. But yes, its a world where superheros exist, so something like a snake girl isn’t something that a random person would necessarily lose their shit over. I tried to think of how I’d react if I saw something like Modest, a creature who was clearly not human, but who was being treated like a human child and acting like one, and I decided that i’d think it was strange but I wouldn’t freak out about it (I would tell everyone I knew afterwards, of course). I think that the people in Modest’s neighborhood are used to seeing her. People get used to her very quickly, I think. if she was the only weird thing in her world I think people would freak out and call the police every time they saw her.
