I’m not sure, really. I’ve been wanting to make some Medusa toys or figurines for awhile. I’d like to explore some 3D printing options, and I think a good place to start is by commissioning a model. I’m not ready to do that yet, but I want to start looking for an artist and trying to figure out the whole process.
To start with you need to make some good reference images, it should be easy for you, just draw your character from the front, the side and behind in a pose that keeps arms away from the body slightly, and in Modests case, with her tail and hair straight so that the length of them is easy to get right. From this it’s pretty easy to make a posable 3d version, I wouldn’t mind taking a stab at it myself, but more for practicing modelling I wouldn’t call myself an artist so it probably wouldn’t be too useful for you ^^ Here’s an example image (that I found with a quick google search) of what I mean with the different views and how to place arms: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PTTazVcIN6Q/UG26PQHLbGI/AAAAAAAABdc/xJw6e60rX2U/s1600/Irk_Crewman_Model_Sheet_by_cyberplague.jpg
Thanks for the info. I appreciate it. That looks like a pretty standard model sheet, which is something I never got around to doing for Medusa since the comic kind of happened by accident. That’ll be my next step, I guess! I’ll post it when I’m done.
Its best to use graph paper for this to ensure all the angles match up. If anyone remembers those Disney toys from McDonald’s happymeal–the ones where they drove cars that you pulled them backwards and it’ d go forward?–I saw the actual model sheets used for those in my art class in college a few years back
You should have about five at least (front, back, left, right, top). The graph paper will help you keep each the right size and mesh with the others.
Yes, I am decent at 3D. Mostly used Maya, but can do Blender, too, in a pinch. I also do 3D in real-life: Sculpy, clay, and I kick ass at making plush toys.
Oh, neat. If you (or anyone else) are interested in taking a stab at this, send me a link to some of your work. I’m not ready to move forward, but I’ll look over my options. I might end up commissioning a few people eventually. Or not. I really have no idea how to go about this! But right now I’m just kind of interested in looking at peoples art.
If you’re still looking for a 3D artist, I have a background in that, I’ve done Modeling mostly and have recently worked in Sculpting, not much work done but you can check out a model I created via a sculptor I did a few weeks back here: https://sketchfab.com/sslaby I do have a Modeling program though haven’t played around with it yet. My background is in Maya, 3DS, Blender, and programming in OpenGL and Yg. Warning, haven’t done much in the past 8 years… so… I’ll be a bit risty.
Windows 10 is supposed to have a 3D modeling software to come with it. So if nothing else you could maybe try a hand at it yourself when it’s fully released. Although you’ll also need the hololense.
I taught myself to read by reading comics.
I’m serious. I even had the highest reading ability of any kid in my class, through at least the third grade.
I’ve got to say I’ve enjoyed Modest and her adventures. Enough to pledge some $ on Patreon. Modest in grade school, the possibilities are endless. Hope you keep her going.
Hi, i don’t have much experience with making models but I make plush toys, and I do commisions. Please look me up. http://www.facebook.com/alohalyonsdencrafts
My best item are shoulder dragons. They sit on your shoulder and are filled with rice, so it can be used as a hot and cold pack.
Biggish? Whatever you think would be best. Anyway, anything less than $60 sounds like a great deal. I won’t be able to afford anything right away, but lets talk about this next month.
i think you mean modeling and i have dabbled in it, what are you after exactly?

Good advice! Thanks!
She’s already turned half your class into her minions. She needs to learn before she uses this power for evil.
Or worse- super evil!

Sure, I’ll send you a few things later today.
What are these snakes the lady’s talking about? I see no snakes in her hair.
Vampires? Giant snake? Clearly someone should be locked up before they do anymore damage.
KrazyKrow has had some nice looking sculpts done for Spinnerette. I bet he could get you hooked up with someone.

I should ask. I’ve talked to he and his wife(?) a few times and they seem nice.
You can’t enroll her because she looks different? That’ll go over real well in court.
She is smarter than most people. She knows where bears really come from while most people are in denial.
How about the fact that she can turn people to stone as a reason to say no? and she can do it unintentionally I might add.
Only one person knows about that and she’s in another world.
I have a friend who has a 3d printer
Hmm…
He has made a portal gun. It took him a long time but it is super cool.
I already studied with Blender and Unity but haven’t praticed for years, forgot almost everything ;_;
Thinking to make a Modest with custom clothes or even an Amiibo version of her? That would be pretty sweet *0*
That would be awesome.
oh so everybody else does see it ok cool

I’ll add you to my list. Nice Goblin thing!
I can’t 3D model for crap but I have a 3D scanner. TOTALLY THE SAME THING RIGHT?
Maybe I’ll just commission a model and then everyone can print their own.
YAY!

I may try, but I have a feeling I’ll be better off with someone who knows what they’re doing.
I can sculpt, and I’ve worked in toys as well. Here is a link to a few of my pieces. Haven’t posted anything in awhile because I’ve been a bit busy.

Neat. I’ll add you to my list. Thanks!

I believe it.

Thanks so much!
I’m probably late to the party, but — I think we’ve seen this lady before! It was back in Halloween, when Modest was trick-or-treating.

That’s her.
“Craaap” – called it! Thanks Jake.

Neat! Those shoulder dragons are awesome. I’d love to have a plush Medusa. What would you charge for something like that?
It depends on how big you’d like her, but I’m thinking between $30-45.
How big would you like her?
Biggish? Whatever you think would be best. Anyway, anything less than $60 sounds like a great deal. I won’t be able to afford anything right away, but lets talk about this next month.
No problem. I’m currently prepping for a con at the end of the month. This will give me time to work on it.
Would you like her tail, and/or hair snakes with the ability to pose them?
Both would be neat.
Awesome pictures!
“Especially one that has snakes growing out of her head.”
Wow, she’s a total bigot. I don’t know who broke up with whom, but Jake’s better without her.
“Especially one with snakes growing out of her head!”
Hey, Jake. Are you really gonna take that from someone wearing a dead Muppet on her head?
