Mermaid: You never let me do what I wanted! I was always a follower! So I am going to join this oppressive regime that will dictate everything I can do and make me a follower again.
What a stuck up little fish – I love how you specifically used the phrase “I followed you”, suggesting that rather not being asked what she wanted, she just saw her “friend” do something and decided to do the same thing
At this point I don’t think theres a real answer. D&D kobolds appear to be lizards (Dragoniods?), but I’ve seen dog and cat Kobolds, fish, short humans, plants and more. I think more than anything its become “Short and not very tough monster”.
Oh, okay, looks like it’s not a ruse, when did they become spies for Auntie Naga, and why is the deep waging war on the princes lands in the first place? Also is there like a wiki or something For all these questions instead of just making you answer all of them?
Jenny and Deb were never spies for Naga. They worked for the Gorgon.
The Deep has been at war with the Prnce for over 1000 years. mermaids were created specifically for that war. This is discussed just a little in The Magical Land of Yeld RPG (which is probably the source of info you’re looking for), but we still don’t know much about it.
Okay, but – and, here’s a crazy thought – why not… oh, I dunno… just tell her to get lost? I mean, you could kill her or trap her in stone and feel better about yourself. Or, you let her live the rest of her natural life with the guilt and pain of knowing that her “best friend” never actually liked her.
What’s cooler than “cool?” (“Ice cold~!”) Revenge is a dish best served cold, and that kind of coolness tends to leave a mark that not even the best salve or Healmore spell can fix, my dear.
… ‘course, you could also sock her one on your way out, too. Just to get the anger out. Hee…
I can feel some sympathy for Deb. I think many friendships do settle into a state where one person is the leader and one is the follower. I’m often a follower in friendships.
That’s just my personality. This arrangement can sometimes be fine for many years, until both people reach the point where they don’t even consider the fact that they are always leading or always following.
I’ve had friendships fade a bit because it seems like things can only be done in the way that is most convenient for the other person. And before anyone says, “Well, you have to speak up then,” it’s not always that simple. One example that comes to mind is a co-worker I used to see movies with. We always had to go during the day on a Saturday. It was cheaper, he didn’t want to stay up late, he had to run errands for his wife during the week, etc etc. Now, I could easily make that arrangement work, but if I ever said, “You know what, I’d rather go in the evening during the week.” I can guarantee that he just wouldn’t go then. We’d still be friends, but we wouldn’t be friends seeing movies anymore.
So, that leaves me with the choice of either going when it works for him, or not going with him. It’s not a huge deal, and this isn’t meant to be a sob story — I’m just saying that it can sometimes be irritating when you know you are doing things the way the other person wants all the time, and that they would likely fade away rather than change if you didn’t.
Granted, I don’t condone sealing these friends in mud coffins or trying to kill them…but if there wasn’t attempted murder happening I would think some people are being a bit hard on Deb. 😉
Relationships are complicated, and getting stuck in roles and habits that lead to extreme negative feel sing is common. I know people are like “jeez Deb, no one was forcing you to do any of that”, but i think we can all look at our own lives or the lives of people around us and see some of this kind of stuff. We all have people we take for granted, and we all fall into just going along with whoa our friends want because its easier than arguing. We don’t always want to admit it, or even recognize it, but its super common.
So it’s Jenny’s fault that Deb never thought for herself? I’ve heard that argument before.
You’ve obviously never been to reddit’s r/entitledpeople
Ha. Yeah. Deb’s monologue here is based on a real world experience.

…
…wait.

Deb… might have a point there.
And little Modest is adorable <D
By the way, I get confused about kobolds. Some people depict them as lizards while others depict them as… dogs? So which is it?
At this point I don’t think theres a real answer. D&D kobolds appear to be lizards (Dragoniods?), but I’ve seen dog and cat Kobolds, fish, short humans, plants and more. I think more than anything its become “Short and not very tough monster”.
YEAH FISH AND CRAB ARE BACK :D!
Hmm… That last panel. Did the pink haired girl just turn 13? Or however old it is that they start to turn?
She’s actually about 15. She’s already turned.
Oh! That makes sense. Is she like a werewolf?
Turned?
Humans who stay in Yeld too long turn into monsters.
SOMEBODY entered rage mode
Here’s hoping she’s about to hit the leader from behind and turn the tide for the nice folks!
Mermaid Yuri! Woo hoo!
Is that just Modest’s vivid imagination? Or can she see stuff others cannot (like my cat)?
I think she just found some Kobolds wandering around. Probably no one else noticed them because they’re short.

What’s “the gorgon?”
Modest’s mother.

Now she tells her.

That’s one of the reasons why I really like your writing.
Thanks.
