– So you’re probably wondering what is going on. This is part 1 of a special intermission comic that will be running through the rest of January. The comic takes place a few weeks before the end of last season. Redmarlin has very generously agreed to color this story, and I think has done a fantastic job!
Why an intermission? I realized a few weeks ago that I needed to create some time in my schedule at the beginning of the year to catch up on art for the Yeld rpg. Since coloring is the most time consuming party of this strip I decided to look for someone who could take over that job for a month. I had planned to start the intermission directly after part 52 (the strip before last where Modest first sees the farm), but the scheduling didn’t work out right. So now you’ll have to wait till the beginning of February to find out what’s happening with Modest’s bucket headed sister. I know that you’ve all been patiently waiting for Modest to finally see her sisters again, and I’m sorry to make you wait a month longer. In the meantime Redmarlin and I have a fun short story for you, and I’ll be spending the extra time this month hard at work on Yeld art.
I just realized that modest just told her entire class about Shepard shooting faeries in their eyes with arrows. That’s a pretty brutal story for a 1st grade class.
I think I’m going to enjoy this intermission story.
Was MM born, or hatched, or spawned, or, well, whatever…?
Based on the story that we saw in season 3 she was probably hatched.
Based on the vagueness of his answer, I choose to believe Jake means she was sort of barfed up by Momma Gorgon.
I worry about Modest’s ability to make it in the real world.
That seems to be the main premise behind the last two story arcs.
Born seven times? Sounds like it!
Yes, ‘Dest. That is exactly 100% correct.
(With a 100% margin of error…)
After all this is sorted out, she’d be really confused if she met Taliesin the twice-born, or a born-again christian.
Modest: So… does that mean it counts as double? Or does the count reset when you’re reborn?
Taliesin: D’you know, I’ve never really given it much thought… I generally work from the date of my first birth, as Gwion Bach, and the horoscopes seem to come out right, but I don’t really need to use them anyway, as I have tasted of the Salmon of Knowledge and-
Born-again Christian: *!!!* Heathen! Forswear thy ungodly beliefs and-
Taliesin: *plays “blerwm-blerwm-blerwm-” on his lips with his finger*
Born-again Christian: *!* *plays “blerwm-blerwm-blerwm-” on his lips with his finger* 🙁
Modest: *giggles* *joins in with the “blerwm-blerwm-blerwms”* 😀
>:=)>
That would make an excellent strip.
Well, help yourself! Right now, I’m imagining it as an animation, with the instrumental/vocalise ending from Fitter Stoke has a Bath by Hatfield and the North fading up over the blerwm-blerwms. >:=)> (p.s. This is the single version, which appears as a bonus track on the CD rerelease of their eponymous first album, rather than the album track from The Rotters’ Club.)
Reincarnation, that’s how people can die and come back.
I agree, that is the best birthday present, assuming a certain budget.
I got that set for Christmas!
Its a neat set!
