I think this is more related to the massive blood loss, and that is with vessels connected to her head.
Also, possibly nerve damage might screw with senses. I remember tasting metal for a week because my dentist put in a misaligned crown on my tooth. It messed with the nerves, and everything from that ended up messing with the nerve signals for some taste buds.
