– I had a scare this morning! I went to save this page and my entire Modest Medusa folder was just gone!!! I was surprised, but not worried, since I have a backup folder in Dropbox. But when I went to that folder… the most recent files were from 2018. Which I just don’t understand, since I backup every month or two, and I regularly pull files from that folder at home to reference or work on. So suddenly I was VERY worried! Losing 3 years of Modest Medusa files is a disaster.
Thankfully when I reset my computer the folder re-appeared. IDK what the problem was, but I immediately made an extra backup on an external drive, and now I’m running a full diagnostic. Dropbox is a bigger mystery, but I’m uploading a new backup right now.
Anyway, this took a year off my life!
Now she’s in a rat infested dungeon.
ha
Damn. That sounds scary as all hell. I’m glad there was a happy ending to this, unlike when I accidentally closed a tab full of music channels I wanted to browse later and closed a few other tabs before I remembered I had to bring it back, and by closing the other tabs I’d pushed the collection out of my immediate history…
That does suck.
Someone should tell Mara that when you have no idea who the next person you talk to actually IS, it’s probably best to assume that they are just about anything you don’t wish to encounter.
I can’t help but notice that Marah had he glasses on last page, and now they’re gone> What happened to them?
You can’t wear glasses when you meet vampires. Its not polite.
wat happen to her horns and glasses from last strip? O_o
Fixed.
Someone needs to tell Mara that when she has no real idea of who she is talking to, and she knows there are people around who are dangerous, ANY unknown person should be assumed to be dangerous until she knows otherwise.
I take that back, I had no idea where this was going
Of all the races that I want to be explained here, vampires are now at the top, although technically in almost all settings it’s a transmittable curse.
We explain a little about Vampires in the Yeld RPG book, but not much. And that’s on purpose.
The Vampires of Yeld are… possibly not Vampires. They drink blood, but not that often. They’re stronger at night and weaker during the day, but sunlight doesn’t hurt them. They don’t turn into bats, and they don’t really have many of the traditional strengths and weaknesses associated with Vampires.
The Yeld didn’t have Vampiress before the Prince came, and he people of Yeld didn’t know what that word meant. So when the Dragul called himself the Prince of Vampires, it meant as much as saying he was teh Prince of Spain or the Prince of Muppets. None of those words had meaning to anyone in Yeld. In fact, now the only people in Yeld who have an understanding of what Vampires are (as in, Vampires from our fiction and folklore) are teh kids from our world.
Its not clear how Dragul’s vampirism works or how it is transmitted. Most of Yeld’s vampires were directly created by the Prince, but not all were. It can be spread with a bite, but thats not the only way, and it may be more complicated than that. It is known that people vampires feed on need to be burned when they die (even if they die decades later) or they will return as undead. Yeld didn’t have those before the Prince either, and it took people a long time to connect the new ‘plague of undeath” to the vampires (nd even the Vamires didn’t realize this).
The Vampires of Yeld are extremely strong and durable. They can heal from most wounds very fast, especially if they consume blood or meat, and they don’t tire quickly. They can go without sleep for weeks (although they like to sleep), and they can go without food and water for long periods too as long as they have blood. They don’t need to drink blood often, and can survive on animal blood or even uncooked meat if they need to. They don’t age naturally, and mostly don’t get sick. So many live for a very long time. In fact, most of Yeld’s vampire population has been alive since the days of the Last King, when the Prince first came to Yeld.
There are only about 1000 vampires in all of Yeld. New vampires are very uncommon.

“Well, here’s another nice mess you’ve gotten me into!”
I do hourly Time Machine backups on my Mac Pro. One internal drive, two external drives. Yes, I’m paranoid. I’ve also read umpteen horror stories. 😀
Maybe I should start doing that.
“How was I supposed to know they work for the Prince?”
“EVERYONE works for the Prince!”
If you can, place a back up on a large flash drive. then update that every 2 months. then you have something that does no rely on a host network etc.
Good idea.
