Happy 4th of July!
I’m not… pleased with the state of my country right now. I don’t feel like theres a lot to celebrate. BUT! But I think today is a chance to remember that we can do better. We can take care of each other, and take care of our neighbors. We can work for equality and fairness. We can strive to make sure all of us have what we need, instead of some of us having enough for all of us. We can be better people.
Have a safe and happy 4th of July. Enjoy time with your friends and family.
– Jake
No sauerkraut on the hot dog?
I LOOOOOOOOVE kraut on my dog, but I didn’t even think to add it here.
Here’s what I like: A big sausage or high quality hot dog, lots of kraut, mustard, onions, dill relish, bacon bits, some shredded cheese and just a tiny bit of hot sauce!
I rather enjoy dill relish, and on more than just hot dogs. Tragically, it’s horribly underrepresented in the places I’ve lived. In California grocery stores, it’s not unheard of for there to be literally no dill relish available at all, and the stock persons look at you puzzled as though you’re speaking a language in a language foreign to them when you ask.
Now I’m hungry for some good bratwurst.
Luckily we’ve always had it here. Good relish selection in Portland!
Do you have a name, for this delicious concoction? Because, this sounds like something that would sell for five bucks, at a specialty restaurant or ‘dog vendor!
No garlic, though, huh…?
I don’t, but they have something similar at my favorite Hot Dog place, Zack’s Shack (on SE Hawthorne). I don’t remember what its called, but its on the menu and its great.
Solely ketchup for me.
Hmmmm.
I should say that if I get a hot dog while eating out, I can usually have it done right with kraut and relish and mustard and ketchup. But at home, where I do nearly all my eating, I can’t do it that way—I’d have to keep a pretty big pot of sauerkraut going constantly—so, usually, it’s just ketchup. But I will shake it up once in a long while.
“They told me to call it Cabbage of Freedom, because we are at war with Germans now!” 😀 Quote from memory (therefore mangled), if you guess the book you get plus points.
And i know some people who are making big pots of sauerkraut each year, ceramic jars for 30+ kg. If you know how, and have suitable room…
Well said in your intro, Jake! We CAN do better. We must. Happy Independence Day!
Well said, Jake! The july sticker is underling your words perfectly.
=)
Happy 4th of July to you, your family and friends, Modest and to all american readers!
Greetings from Germany.
Thanks!
One of snakes would eat this… and nothing would happen. And then it would start breath fire. And Modest would conjure these fires instead of bunnies.
That sounds about right!
Glad you didn’t put her with that hat…your choice is much better ..I wish you a very happy 4th of the july…;)
You too!
That’s not actually a sparkler. She’s trying to cast a spell without help and RT is panicking because she’s not listening to him.
Its all about to explode!
High economy, low unemployment, low taxes. There is plenty to celebrate! Far less troops have died, like a shit ton less have died. Iran deal was killed so we are less likely to get nuked, peace talks with Kim, not that I would trust anything he says, but hey, at least when he threatened us they didn’t give him money like the last three presidents did.
I… don’t think we’re living n the same country. Corporations and the rich seem to be doing fine, but the rest of our economy is doing awful. Low unemployment is meaningless when people are subsisting on part time work or working two or 3 jobs to get by. Troops are still dying, and veterans are still not getting the help, support and compensation they deserve. Iran was not going to Nuke us. That was a good deal. We’re far less safe without it. The peace talks with N. Korea were a complete sham where nothing was accomplished except further legitimizing Kim J.
Sorry man, I completely disagree.
You think the Iran deal was good? You’re past the deep in, I’m out.
Yeah, I agree with the vast majority of specialists and world leaders on the Iran deal.
