This one took awhile. I gave myself serious eyestrain playing a game on my 3DS this week, and when it came time to draw this strip suddenly my eyesight was super blurry. I’ve never experienced anything like it before, and honestly it was a little scary. I powered through the line art, but it took a LOT longer than it should have. And honestly doesn’t look great. By the time I had finished drawing the strip it was already late on Sunday night and my eyes were aching, so I decided to put off coloring and lettering until today. Thankfully some eyedrops and rest solved my eye strain problems (although I’m scheduling an eye exam). I managed to finish the strip just before midnight tonight, so technically its not late.
Did anyone ever tell Joyce that Modest is a princess?
Yeah. We didn’t see that conversation, but earlier this year there was a conversation between Ms. Booth and Joyce where it becomes apparent that she’s been filled in.

Absolutely, definitely not going to Yeld. For sure.
Somehow I managed to miss the strips for June 16 and June 19 – Going back, I just saw two comic strips that I did not see before. Considering those were the strips where Jenny explained what she was doing, it was… a little strange to miss those.
As for the comic itself, I’m not sure how wise it is to leave a power vacuum in place for personal reasons, even if I agree Modest isn’t ready to be in charge. Historically, kings that were seen as too young to rule were appointed regents to rule in their stead until they were ready. This was an imperfect solution, but like… maybe find a regent?
We’re not sure what the political situation is like in Yeld right now, but its very likely that if Vargas is still alive he’s running things.
How about the aunt (I forgot her name and haven’t got time to dig back through the archive for it right now)? She seemed quite sensible and even-tempered and would probably make a good regent. But Jake will probably have to accept that sooner or later Modest will return to Yeld
Naga is pretty even tempered, but she’s also very old. She probably won’t live much longer. Her sister, the Gorgon, might make a claim on the throne based on being the Prince’s consort and mother to the new queen, but I doubt she’d be interested. We don’t even know if she’s still alive.
Vargas, Kerrigor and teh Hand of Autumn are most likely candidates, as the Prince’s chief lieutenants. Vargas is a pretty stand up fellow, and already manages much of the Kingdom’s daily business. Kerrigor controls its armies and is an absolute monster. As we saw last season, the Hand seems to be up to her own business with the Tower of Autumn and the Deep.
The Animal Tribes could try to make a claim to put the Tree Prince on the throne. And the Abolishers still might try to kidnap another Serpent Oracle to use as a puppet ruler and advance their plans to driver everyone but Fairies from the Kingdom.
Lots of options! Yeld is likely going to be in chaos for a few years. Even more than usual.
Now we are curious which 3DS game it was.
Etrian Odyssey V.
Just wondering when do you normaly post the comics
Normally I post every Monday and Friday, very early in the mornings. Sometimes I get delayed (like this week) and post late in the day.
I know the site says the comic is up on Weds as well. That hasn’t been true for a few years. Unfortunately I’m locked out of some of the site’s functionality and can’t currently fix it. I’m hoping to be able to soon though. its only my work list.
Like he has a choice.
But what if… she wants to go back?
There are few people missing in this agreement.
Oh, it’ll never be that easy, they should know that by now
I suppose the other signatories will just have to swing by Jake’s house~
So, what does Modest have to say about this? Why was the Prince not a King? Will Modest be a Queen? Is this just a ploy? Looking forward to future installments. BTW your artwork keeps getting better and better.
Thanks.
We’ll find out what Modest think about all of this later. It will be a big deal for her.
Why was the Prince not a King? Good question. If you’ve read the Yeld RPG you’ll have seen that Prince Dragul is the regent of Yeld, a title he took after he staged a coup against the Princess when the Old King died. This has been alluded to a few times in Modest Medusa, but I’m not sure if its ever been stated outright.
Dragul’s “Prince” title is something he already had when he came to Yeld. He called himself the Prince of Vampires (Vampires did not exist in Yeld previous to his arrival). In his early days in Yeld the royal court referred to him as “the Foreign Prince”
