– It hasn’t actually snowed in Portland at all this winter, but whatever.
– I’ll be at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo Swap Meet on Saturday the 24th at the Double Tree Hotel. I won’t be selling any video game related stuff at all, so it’ll probably be weird and awkward.
hilairious
When I saw snow as a kid I thought the world was dying. I live in California so it’s still pretty foriegn.
Grew up in northern Canada, so snow’s been part of my life as far back as I can remember. Which is longer than I’ve been walking on my own.
Some years we have a lot of snow here and some years we get none at all.
that reminds me of the snow like 8 years ago when it snowed for like 2.5 weeks and i had so many snow days
That, and Modest hasn’t been around for a full year in-universe… Yeld doesn’t look like a particularly snowy place, so… this is new to her regardless of if she showed up in a place that snowed heavily every year.
usually not, here in vancouver.
We here in the Toronto area tend to get snow each year, but sometimes we get a “Winter That Wasn’t,” like a couple of years ago, where we only got snow once in the winter, Feb 15. It melted by the 20th.
Love the Unikitty shirt.
Yeah, best the last few years is a heavy frost pretending to be snow!
Cute. Unikitty. 🙂
I wonder if they will build a snowman. I just hope the snakes don’t eat the yellow snow.
Modest, no, snow is normal, yes, outside is broken.
I believed snow was magical and fun (being from Texas)…then I tried to do a snow angel on New Years in New Mexico. ^-^
Cold, Wet, and a massive aches is all I can say!
Finally, we find out if Modest if endothermic or exothermic.
If she has a snake’s endothermic metabolism, then winter is a hard time; she will want to stay inside where it is warm. If she heads outside, even with jackets, etc. she will quickly go into a stupor and need to carried somewhere warm quickly before she freezes.
If instead, she is exothermic, like a bird or mammal, then without any feathers or fur, and very little insulating blubber, she will lose lots of heat to her environment in short order and risk hypothermia if her body comes into contact with snow or other cold substances. Expect shivering and pain from the beginnings of hypothermia and frostbite.
When Modest is bundled up properly, she will have difficulty moving because her scales will be covered. I guess she could use a sidewinder-style action for locomotion. Only a few non-moving parts of the snake are in contact with the ground at a time. I saw a video of a huge snake using this motion to cross a hot parking lot in South Africa once. It is not just used by the eponymous snake in the American desert.
Flashbacks to the Season 2 finale of The Walking Dead Game
get some duct tape medusa
No Oregon snow will ever compare to the whiteout that amassed last year. I don’t know about Portland but an hour and a half down south and that was PARADISE.
Now if only someone could teach Oregonians how to drive in the snow.
Ha. I always here people from out of state say that Oregonians don’t know how to drive in teh snow, and I always look at them and think “You know that most of the people you’re criticizing aren’t from Oregon, right? They moved here.”
Yeah, 60% of the population moved here from warmer states. They assume stepping on the gas will give them traction, or 4 wheel drive means that they have traction and can go fast an will stop fast too. The latter assumption is a failure in their logic. We just put on snow tires and drive slow – how slow depending on the conditions and surrounding idiots – and we do fine. I have a pickup and my wife has a Subaru. Zero snow related accidents.
I’m a 68 year native, my wife has lived here 34 years after moving from Montana. Wet snow, meh!
Sure the people on “summer slicks” can stop fast. All they have to do is find a secondary braking system, like a tree, a building or the bumper of the car ahead of them.
In recent winters, I have felt a certain amount of schadenfreude as I cruised past AWD SUVs spun off into the median in my tiny RWD convertible sports car. I did have two advantages. One, all-season tires. Two, three decades of experience in driving in almost every kind of messed-up weather known to humanity. I never sweat the weather, but I do show it a little respect.
When I was little, I lived in southern California. Parents took us all up to Eureka in northern California where I saw snow for the first time at age 3. We walked around and I kept feeling the snow and pulling my hands back, and walked around and kept feeling the snow.
Parents asked me what I was doing and highly annoyed I snapped back at them. “I’M LOOKING FOR SOME WARM SNOW!”
ha.
That’s easy. The warm snow looks yellow, but you might not want to touch it.
It’s perfect weather to toss boiling water out of a bucket so you can watch it chance into snow.
I prefer the supersoaker (aka my worksite’s steam pressure washer) myself.
Unikitty! :3
Love the Unikitty T-shirt.
Stupid broken outside.
Modest + Snow = cute chaos. nice princess unikitty shirt, modest!
Unikitty!
A combination of the two most adorable things I’ve ever seen.
*chortles* So, Modest has never seen snow before, huh? This is going to be fun. ^^
That’s about how I feel this time of year.
Heh, it hasn’t even snowed in Seattle.
I love Medusa’s reactions to things <3
Will the Uni-Kitty T-shirt be the latest in your line? 🙂
No snow in Portland is okay. It took me anextra hour to get home on Trimet during the snow storm last year. I came home to find 3 stray kittens that night too.
Outside isn’t broken. It’s just been hacked by Jack Frost. Now, are you going to be able to have fun in it, or will you have to sit indoors until it resets? >:=)>
More like a freezer exploded. XD
For some reason we had a huge rainstorm a few days ago. If you’re going to rain atleast bring spring with it Utah!
But I thought she first came to earth around Christmas… ? How has she not seen snow? |:/
No snow that year.
“Outside is broken” that line is gold.
Hehe.

Oh… oh! I feel dumb that I am only getting the joke on the second go. Broken, like a TV with a snowy screen. Derp!
Ah, winter where I live! ’21, it was pushing 70(F), I put the top down on my car. ’22, I couldn’t even get into my car because the doors were frozen shut.
