“Snek leader, ready!” Here’s Modest as a Resistance pilot from the new Star Wars movies (specifically wearing Jess Pava’s outfit). This is the sticker of the month (well, last month actually) for my Patreon. My Patreon income has… diminished… over the last year, which has made things a little difficult. I’m trying to get things back on track this year with more frequent content (stickers and wallpapers every month, instead of every other). If you can spare a few bucks I’d really appreciate your support. money from Patreon is most of my income, and helps pay for studio space, supplies, my website and other modest medusa expenses. You can find my Patreon here!
Happy Birthday, John
Was it because of all the donors who ended up closing their Patreon accounts? I know a lot of creators who depend on Patreon were trying to find an alternative recently, because their supporters had a problem with using Patreon, not with the creators they were trying to support.
That was part of it. Also, money is tight for a lot of people right now, and I’m sure that doesn’t help. And of course sometimes people just lose interest, or want to put their money somewhere else. Which is fine. but I’m hoping to make some changes soon to attract some new patrons.
I’m…I’m…I’m…CAUGHT UP???? NOOOOOOO!!!!
Ehem…. I especially appreciated the one-scene vignettes with Modest as a Jedi…and a Rebel pilot…and in Mad Max. Man, the fanfic crossover potential is tantalizing!
I’m looking forward to where this goes over the years. Does Modest ever figure out how to avoid her mother’s fate? If so, is the trade-off a doozy? Of course, she’ll lose her childlike innocence, which, while endearing, is also a smidgin annoying from time to time. But I guess that speaks to her innate intelligence intersecting tiwh her complete lack of socio-cultural context.
Trying to grow Modest beyond just being an innocent and sometimes obnoxious kid has been a challenge. as he grows I hope more of her personality will be revealed, but its tempting to always fall back on what I know works.
I hear ya. I’ve had trouble writing characters growing old and dying. Anyway, I guess there’s a lot of potential material as she goes through the trials and tribulations of American elementary school, and that’s before we even look at her teenage years!
And, well, I figured that the gorgon’s life cycle is a metaphor for what happens to a child on their way to adulthood.
Yeah. A pretty heavy handed metaphor.
One of several you’ve woven throughout. Kids not wanting to be like their parents…family not having to be related…immigration issues…diversity…the nature of monsters…child psychology…and so on. Sometimes a little on-the-nose, and sometimes not. Anyway, I’ve spent the last couple of weeks basically binge-reading MM, and I’m completely sucked in!
Will we get to see Modesta of Borg? 😉
I never thought of that. Maybe?
“Blue Four, standing by.”
“Blue Four” is pretty good.
Actually spot on with the novel. The X-wings were blue group instead of red. Also love the “Boba Fett/mandalorian” touch on the helmet. Do the letters spell anything?
The helmet markings are actually Jess Pava’s from The Force Awakens. i’m sure they mean something, since everything in Star Wars does. Actually, I have the visual dictionary for that film around here somewhere. Its probably mentioned there.
Considering the attention to detail in the Star Wars universe, they surely do. There’s probably a Wookiepedia article on it, or something on theforce dot net.
I figured four hair-snakes…or is it snake-hairs?…or just snakes?…anyway, Four (despite what it says in the Book of Armaments).
The Force is with her in every way! ❤️
Yes, of course, I do recognize Star Wars…
…BUT, it’s nonetheless hard for me to look at that logo on the helmet and not think “Harry Potter!”
The quiddich team’s new uniforms are strange this year…
