In this case I think it refers to a common idiom among members of a specific fantasy race. I chose “You’ll split a seam” because Ms. Tilly is a Toothfacer, and it seemed like something a Toothfacer would say instead of “You’ll open your wounds” or “You’ll hurt yourself.” Of course, its a real life idiom too. My grandmother used to say it all the time. I assume its from the American South, but I’m not actually sure.
The “your clothes or your skin” question might be considered rude, maybe even racist, but personally I’d give her a pass on this, considering that she’s delirious from having just woken up from a coma. Either way, atleast Ms. Tilly doesn’t seem to mind, she seems really pleasant.
OH MY GOD I hope we get to learn more about Toothfacers AND Drudge Angels in the next few comics! The Friends in my Yeld game are about to climb the Storm Mountains looking for the floating castle of the Drudge Angels!
Honestly, her doing her own stitching is legitimately impressive. I mean, assuming she sews like a human and doesn’t have a thousand spiders living in her or something (which I probably shouldn’t assume), that means she has to sew one handed whenever she needs to attach one of her hands.
“You’ll split a seam” XD
I don’t know why but I love those kinds of racial idioms.
Then again she could be saying that literally in this casw, given Marah’s injuries.
Its a little of both.
Racial idiom? Am I missing something?

NOW is she worried about splitting a seam.

More about both are coming, but unfortunately not in the next few strips.
