– Melony Chitwood and Carrie Potter invited me to be a gust on their podcast. It was a lot of fun. Listen to us take about Modest Medusa, making comics and why New Mexico isn’t that great. I don’t know why I was so down on NM. I’ve only been there once and it was actually pretty great. Anyway, you can watch/listen to the whole thing here.
– Big thanks to everyone who took advantage of the Modest Medusa black friday sale. The last of those books are shipping today, so you should get them in time for Christmas, even if you live overseas.
Oh dang… Um… Bite him!
When all else fails, go for the jugular!
Well she’s got those fancy new teeth might as well use em right?! lol
And then the spear head falls onto The Prince and nicks him and blood and win.
Or she rams the broken stub of shaft in her hand into his face. Bit of vampire strength behind it should tear his cheek wide open.
Okay, so that is why you don’t block a sword using a spear.
At least, not that part of the spear
Even if you block using the blade, the leverage from a powerful swing would still snap the shaft, unless you’re using your arm to brace the swing. However, even then, you’d do some damage to your wrist because of the necessary positioning so you’re not then cutting into yourself. Historically, people who would use spears in melee combat (this excludes people like pikemen and boar hunters, who brace with their spears and let the cavalry/boar they’re facing deliver the killing blow to themselves) would also use shields (Spartans are an example, but I’m not sure how accurate the movie 300 is with weaponry and I haven’t looked much at bronze-age warfare) in order to block attacks from their opponents. I’d say she should use her indestructable power arm as a shield instead, but she needs that for her sword arm.
Well it was made of Dragon bones… I would have thought it would be stronger… It was made of Dragon bones right? I’m not misremembering that?
Bones are incredibly brittle, especially after centuries post-mortem.
that is an awesome line… “he isnt a cliff… he’s an avalanche.”
Thanks!
“I might not be much of a wave, but, um…. I’m gonna rock you like hurricaine . “

Great writing in this story. Seriously.
Not a big anime fan, but I’ve seen enough to know that just as she’s about to lose her gauntlet will suddenly reveal some new power.
And the prince is like an avalanche burying a village, only she’s not a village she’s a metropolis. Yeah, Vargas isn’t the only one who can hyperbolize.
Splinter him!
I’m on the edge of my seat!
He hit it with a sword, why it is break into several pieces?
The shaft appears to be made of bones so they shattered. Or alternatively – the magic holding the spear together dissipated / the sword’s magic works like that. Or alternatively – because it looks cool 🙂
What I was wondering was: If he is hitting the spear from above in the third frame, why is the sword going in the opposite direction in the last frame after the spear breaks?
But uh, I’m sure it’s just because some frames and movements were skipped.
Yes you’re seeing a mid swing panel and an end swing panel.
its not that marah didnt have a chance. its that her spear is made out of bone if i recall correctly. and bone is not exactly the sturdiest thing around.
actually bones been used in weapons for a long time. probably due to it being harder to cut than wood and not as heavy as metal, while by adding scrimshaw or using antler gives very good grip.
Okay, she needs to use what she has left to destroy his other horn.
Pretty sure an avalanche can be melted by a wave much quicker than a cliff could be worn down. At least it wouldn’t take a thousand years. 😛
If you can avoid an avalanche, all you will have to deal with is a bunch of fallen rocks.
Yeah, an avalanche kind of falls by default.
So if she uses it like Narsil, she’s win.
It’s time to do something crazy and unexpected.
Oh Snap! Literally ! Marah’s staff is bone which is pretty brittle but I’m guessing she will block wit the gauntlet and strike with the splintered spear of run and throw the spear head. Either way I totally can’t wait for the next page!
Hey, just had some fridge thinking happen to me. This guy’s comparison is a bit flawed.
You know what an avalanche is to a wave? It’s ignored.
The rocks go into the wave, they disrupt it a little bit, and then sink to the bottom and stay there. Meanwhile the wave is back and going right back into the fray again. And worse, the avalanche did half the job for the wave, because the rocks had to come from somewhere, and now the cliff is a lot smaller.
Daggone it – the rules should have read “first blood or when yer horn gets chopped off.” Dang lawyers.
Well, luck has failed. Here’s hoping pity works when Modest throws herself in front of the Prince’s sword.
She can catch his sabre by armored hand and scratch his face by her nails !
Now while hes distracted punch him in the jugular
Oh shiz… O.O
I need a sonic screw driver and some duck tape!
…That or stab him in the codpiece with the remains of the spear.
if this where buffy, she would have to stab him with his own broken off horn…anyway, since she doesn´t have to win but only draw some blood she still has a chance – usually the greatest mistake of the big bads is their overconfidence. just look how he rushes her with his sword behind his back and his face totally unguarded – one good punch with that gauntlet and he´ll be spitting his teeth!
I still question how he can see.
Also why do I think his dad is going to show up and slap both of them before telling them to “knock that shit off”. I mean, he’s the prince, not the King.
Marah: I’m going to beat you
Dragul: I destroyed your weapon you have no chance so how will you beat me
Marah: One word…. Infomercial!
*Marah uses the knife that can cut through anything to stab through the prince’s armor*
Dragul:……Good word.
I also forsee one of draguls men coming to threaten the village only to have the villagers team up against him and the fairies surrender to the villagers who let them come have drinks with them after the Vampire runs crying back to Dragul.
A cliff just stands there and lets you beat on it.
An avalanche comes at you, fast! Hard! Unstoppable-style!
