O_o Well…I was kinda expecting a sort of psychic/aura energy parasite that has been feeding off of her for a while and was surprised to see her in this world, but Ghost works for me…Just…A ghost of what exactly?
Everyone knows you shouldn’t take sweets from strange octopoid monster thingies, but I guess if he’s an ex-ghost and a friend of the family it’s all right. Anyway, he might know the way to the castle. Octopoid monster things are pretty good with maps, or so I’ve heard.
(Had to change my name a little, Jake – there’s two of us)
Actually in this context either will work – but I definitely prefer ‘you’re’ as its singular possessive. The trouble with these text speech thingies is that they can sound wrong in either context.
Robert, your use of “you’re” would be wrong, since it’s a contraction of “you are” while the other “your” means belonging to, they are not interchangeable. It has nothing to do with text verses speech, since any dialectic oddities should be kept to a minimum to aid in readability. Speech bubbles, much like speech in text only books largely follow the rules of the language to help aid in comprehension. (of course they don’t always follow all the rules, cause people don’t talk like that) But that’s just my English degree talking, many people get “your” and “you’re” mixed up, same with “there,” “their,” and “they’re.”
I was going to put up a large explanation for your and you’re, as I am writing a book and it always annoys me when people do that, but you beat me to it.
Hi Maria I think you just made my point – you’re a ghost is a contraction of you are a ghost, while ‘your’ implies some kind of ownership. The best advice I had years ago on oral text – speech is that the only way to test it is to read it out aloud – and its only right if it sounds right.
See, I would have assumed that if something that was trying to eat me moments ago asked “Do you want a treat for guessing right?” it would be spiteful sarcasm.
Medusa innocently took it at face value, and got a lollipop.
In summary, I think the last panel of this comic is the best thing ever.
I just burned through the whole archive since I first found Modest Medusa two days ago, and I love the odd mix it has of the innocent and the not-so-innocent. I commented here because I do have something to say about this episode.
Re: ghost monster
Ghost? Ah yes that special monster which keeps the horrible WOC trade mark monsters at bay. Since the ghost couldn’t possibly be a *indflayer, right?
Thanks for reading. It actually really, really is a ghost. No mindflayer influence at all. Check out the short story in the back of the MM Season 1 book to see where this ghost comes from (he used to live in my Mom’s house).

love it a ghost friend

Bizzaro World Timothy!!!!
Dang it. I got a goatee now.
I love the Bizzaro episode of Sealab 2021, and now I imagine that whenever you post ice cubes come out of your mouth.
What?!?! Hasn’t Medusa ever heard of stranger danger? That lollipop does look good though…
Strange octopoid monsters might be from Cthulhu
Also, has Medusa hair color changed?
Yes, I used to use a gradient on her hair, but I’m trying out a lighter tone. Not sure yet if I like it.
If you’re not sure you like it, then you don’t like it. Silly Jake. :p
darn my bet was on monster in the closet or under the bed lol
Your using the wrong You’re
I’ll fix it when I update next. Thanks.
And it’s… when? 🙂
I forgot.
That was a joke, right? These things don’t translate well into text; I sincerely hope YOU’RE joking.
You are also using the wrong “Your”.

Also lol Rusty Knight, lol.

Why does no one ever use yore wrong like the other two? He’s starting to feel lonely.

They’re talking about “you’re grandmother”, not “you’re a ghost”, the latter of which is correct.
versus 🙂
A ghost, really, didn;t see tah tcoming
Such a nice ghost!
So the brain sucker hands out suckers for right answers. Slightly appropriate.
Would a crocodile have to hand out chocodiles?
But where does the ghost keep the lollipops? This is going to keep me awake.
I don’t think we want to know …
Harumph harumph

Medusa did ask nicely though,
Ghost: “do you want a treat for guessing right?”
Medusa: “Yes, Please”
Ghost: “Here you go”
such manners from the mosters!
Happy New Year Jake. 🙂
Thanks! Same to you.
No! The lollypop is a trap!
How could it be a trap? Lollypops don’t have gender. Oh, you mean THAT kind of a trap. Never mind.
Didn’t expect that one. Marah, why are you letting Medusa eat candy from strangers? You should know better. I love this comic.
not as sickeningly sweet at casper, but still a pretty friendly ghost
Happy New Year to Jake, Marah, Medusa and all the MM Fans out there!
Hahah what?
I totally wasn’t expecting the sucker as a treat! LOL that’s awesome!
