Its hard to make friends when a squid god is telling you to murder the surface world.
Didn’t there used to be a great on the mermaid’s eye patch? Also, I’ve always wondered: Why are Modest’s bubbles always blueish-green? Does she sound significantly different from humans? Or is it just a quirk to add a bit of flavor with no real meaning?
For a short period of time, Ekans’s speech bubbles were an unique colour too. Then it was dropped.
Yeah. I shifted away from Ekans for a few strips and then I forgot about her bubbles. I may bring them back.
Jenny has a different eye patch with a heart on it that is part of her battle outfit.
I started coloring Modest’s speech balloons because I thought it would make teh comic easier to read. When there are a bunch of balloons in a single panel it can get confusing. It does have teh added benefit of visually distinguishing her voice and suggesting it sounds different. I did the same thing with the Gorgon, who has black speech balloons with white text. I wanted her voice to seem unnatural and jarring.
I’m afraid Jenny would be disappointed if she learned Gene’s trans…

Naw, I don’t think she’d care. There are Trans Mermaids, and they’re common enough that she probably knew one in Yeld.
Yeah, well… trans mermaids are common enough, but Jenny likes boys because she didn’t get to be friends with them when she was little. I… would expect her exotic bias to be more for cis boys.
Another thing on my mind is that we’ve never seen her show any bias for grown men, nor for hydras with boy hair (*cough*). I take it her bias is very specific?
I don’t think she really sees a difference between CIC and Trans boys. Boys are boys as far as she’s concerned.
I think the only grown man we’ve ever seen her interact with is Jake? And she has a weird relationship with Modest, since she tried to kidnap her (twice).
